  • Patent number: 7527588
Abstract: A system and method for placing surgical implants and having particular application for pelvic floor repair. The system includes an assembly having a guide element with a tissue penetrating tip, a cannula, and a retrieval device having a capture element at its distal end. A channel in the cannula is dimensioned to allow passage therethrough of the guide element, and of the retrieval element when removably coupled with an extension of the surgical implant.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 15, 2004
Date of Patent: May 5, 2009
    Assignee: Ethicon, Inc.
Inventors: Vincenza Zaddem, Mark Howansky, Jessica Liberatore, Gene W. Kammerer, Jacqueline Flatow

  • Publication number: 20050268918
Abstract: A sterilization device which causes occlusion to the fallopian tubes of a patient is designed to be trancervically positioned in the intramural portion of the tube without perforating the tube. The device includes a flexible hollow catheter having an interior passageway, a distal end for insertion trancervically into a patient, and a proximal end opposite the distal end for grasping and manipulation by a physician. The device further includes a pair of diametrically opposed electrodes, each being movably mounted on the distal end of the catheter and radially movable with respect to the distal end.
    Type: Application
    Filed: June 7, 2004
    Publication date: December 8, 2005
Inventors: Thomas Ryan, Roddi Simpson, Vincenza Zaddem

  • Publication number: 20050010202
Abstract: An applicator for creating a lesion in tissue, comprising one or more rigid or semi-rigid support members, a compliant material coupled to said support members, at least one passage in communication with the compliant material for infusing a medium to the compliant material and at least one electrode for conducting energy to the tissue. Further, the compliant material or other mechanical linkage may function as means for varying the distance between an ultrasonic transducer element or other ablative energy source and a surface of the tissue.
