  • Publication number: 20250103782
Abstract: Certain aspects of the disclosure provide systems and methods for quantifying leakage risk in a geological storage complex. A method may include performing a plurality of simulated injections by executing geomechanical and fluid flow simulations on a subsurface model representing a geological storage complex, where model parameters are varied for one or more simulated injections. The method may include determining, for the one or more simulated injections, one or more leakage volumes for one or more surface locations in the geological storage complex, and calculating, for the one or more surface locations, one or more of: a leakage probability value indicating a simulated probability of leakage occurring at the surface location, or a leakage severity value indicating a simulated average amount of leakage volume at the surface location. The method may include determining leakage risk based on one or more of the leakage probability value or the leakage severity value.

  • Patent number: 11789170
Abstract: A stimulation includes an injection of a volume of fluid into a formation. A method includes obtaining a mechanical earth model of the formation, modeling a hydraulic fracture growth pattern in the formation from a stimulation of the formation, determining an increase in pressure in the formation resulting from the stimulation, and predicting whether a seismic event will occur in the formation based on the increase in pressure.

  • Patent number: 10577908
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and program product estimate anisotropic properties of an anisotropic formation based at least in part on determinations of a deviation of a wellbore associated with the anisotropic formation and an availability of non-sonic measurement data associated with the anisotropic formation. The determinations are used in the selection of at least one computer-implemented model that in turn may be applied to determine one or more unknown elastic constants for an elastic stiffness matrix.

  • Patent number: 8762118
Abstract: A method for modeling hydraulic fractures of a well. The method includes receiving a reservoir model that describes petrophysical properties of a subsurface of the earth near a reservoir. The method then receives one or more mechanical properties of the reservoir and generating a geomechanical model of the reservoir based on the reservoir model and the mechanical properties. After generating the geomechanical model of the reservoir, the method generates a three dimensional (3D) representation of the hydraulic fractures based on the geomechanical model and the reservoir model.
