  • Publication number: 20140155906
Abstract: A cable tensioning system includes a reaction frame which contains a sliding platform arranged to move linearly within the frame, and a clam-type cleat attached to the sliding platform. The cleat features one or more grooves, each of which comprises two arrays of opposing ridges that converge to form a V-shape groove adapted to receive a length of cable. The ridges of each groove are tilted relative to an axis perpendicular to the groove's longitudinal axis, such that the cable is progressively captured between the ridges of the opposing arrays as it settles into the crotch of the groove when moved in a first direction, and can be disengaged from the cleat by relaxing the axial force on the cable and moving it in the opposite direction. A linear actuator mechanism may be coupled to the sliding platform to move the platform with respect to the reaction frame.

  • Patent number: 8598891
Abstract: Detecting and/or mitigating the presence of particle contaminants in a MEMS device involves converting benign areas in which particles might become trapped undetectably by electric fields during test to field-free regions by extending otherwise non-functional conductive shield and gate layers and placing the same electrical potential on the conductive shield and gate layers. Particle contaminants can then be moved into detection locations remote from the potential trap areas and having particle detection structures by providing some mechanical disturbance.

  • Patent number: 8519444
Abstract: The layouts, device structures, and methods described above utilize dummy devices to extend the diffusion regions of edge structures and/or non-allowed structures to the dummy device. Such extension of diffusion regions resolves or reduces LOD and edge effect issues. In addition, treating the gate structure of a dummy device next to an edge device also allows only one dummy structure to be added next to the dummy device and saves the real estate on the semiconductor chip. The dummy devices are deactivated and their performance is not important. Therefore, utilizing dummy devices to extend the diffusion regions of edge structures and/or non-allowed structures according to design rules allows the resolution or reduction or LOD and edge effect issues without the penalty of yield reduction or increase in layout areas.

  • Patent number: 8312264
Abstract: A digital certificate associating a unique identifier for a computer-based appliance with an authentication key pair for that appliance is obtained from a certificate authority using a different, manufacturing key pair for the appliance. The manufacturing key pair may be generated by the appliance at or about its time of manufacture. The public key portion of the manufacturing key pair along with the unique identifier for the appliance may be provided via secure means to the certificate authority prior to the request for the digital certificate concerning the authentication key pair. Eventually, the digital certificate associated with the authentication key pair may be used by the appliance when joining a network, as part of a one-way or two-way authentication process.

  • Patent number: 8271066
Abstract: The invention includes a method of determining a surgical patient's pelvic position and inputting that position into a computer via a tracking system, suitable for use in navigating partial or total hip replacement surgery. The patient is first aligned with anatomical reference points in relation to corresponding locating features on a patient positioner. The positions of index features on the patient positioner are then acquired via a tracking system. Based on the positions of the index features and their known relationship to the locating features, the locations of the anatomical reference features are calculated and a pelvic plane is defined therefrom. The invention also includes a surgical tool for mounting a trackable target to a human bone, suitable for fixation to a human femur. This tool includes a removable bone clamp and a releasable coupling member, integrated with said removable bone clamp.
