Patent number: 5048561Abstract: A bidirectional check valve that includes a housing having an internal cavity with fluid openings at axially opposed ends. A first valve element comprises a cup-shaped sleeve having a base adjacent to one axial end of the cavity and a sidewall axially slidably embraced by the housing within the cavity. A first fluid passage extends through the base of the sleeve adjacent to one of the cavity openings. A second valve element comprises a spool telescopically slidably received within the sidewall of the sleeve. A second fluid passage extends through the spool end from adjacent the second end of the housing cavity to internally adjacent the sidewall of the sleeve. A fluid passage is formed between the radially opposed surfaces of the sleeve and the spool for passing fluid therethrough as a function of axial position of the sleeve and spool with respect to each other.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1990Date of Patent: September 17, 1991Assignee: Vickers, IncorporatedInventors: Lael B. Taplin, Vinod K. Nanda

Patent number: 4993921Abstract: A hydraulic control system that comprises a hydraulic pressure line, a hydraulic fluid control mechanism and a lag network coupling the pressure line to the control mechanism for restricting flow of hydraulic flow therethrough, and thereby delaying and damping response of the control mechanism to fluid pressure fluctuations at the hydraulic line. The lag network comprises check valve that includes a flow passages interconnecting the hydraulic line and the control mechanism, a valve element, and a spring resiliently urging the valve element to close the passage, such that resistance to fluid flow increases as fluid flow decreases between the hydraulic pressure line and the control mechanism. Preferably, a pair of such check valves are connected in parallel between the hydraulic pressure line and the control mechanism for controllably restricting fluid flow in both directions.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1989Date of Patent: February 19, 1991Assignee: Vickers, IncorporatedInventors: Lael B. Taplin, Vinod K. Nanda

Patent number: 4611528Abstract: A hydraulic control system comprising a hydraulic actuator having opposed openings adapted to alternately function as inlets and outlets for moving the element of the actuator in opposite directions and a variable displacement pump with loading sensing control for supplying fluid to said actuator. A pilot pressure operated meter-in valve is provided to which the fluid from the pump is supplied and pilot pressure is applied to the meter-in valve for controlling the direction and displacement of movement of the meter-in valve and the direction and velocity of the actuator. A pair of lines extends from the meter-in valve to the respective openings of the actuator and a pilot pressure operated meter-out valve is associated with each line of the actuator for controlling the flow out of the actuator when that line to the actuator does not have pressure from from the pump applied thereto.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1985Date of Patent: September 16, 1986Assignee: Vickers, IncorporatedInventors: Vinod K. Nanda, Henry D. Taylor

Patent number: 4569272Abstract: A hydraulic control system comprising a hydraulic actuator having opposed openings adapted to alternately function as inlets and outlets for moving the element of the actuator in opposite directions, a pump for supplying fluid to said actuator, pilot operated meter-in valve to which the fluid from the pump is supplied for controlling the direction of movement of the actuator, and pilot operated meter-out valve associated with at least one opening of the actuator for controlling the flow out of said actuator. The pressure of fluid being supplied to the actuator by the meter-in valve means is sensed and caused to produce a force opposing the movement of the meter-in valve means by the pilot pressure and also applied to a device for controlling an overhauling load resulting in a smooth and accurate control of the movement of the actuator.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1984Date of Patent: February 11, 1986Assignee: Vickers, IncorporatedInventors: Henry D. Taylor, Vinod K. Nanda

Patent number: 4418612Abstract: A hydraulic control system comprising a hydraulic actuator having opposed openings adapted to alternately function as inlets and outlets for moving the element of the actuator in opposite directions, a pump for supplying fluid to the actuator, pilot operated meter-in valve means to which the fluid from the pump is supplied for controlling the direction of movement of the actuator, meter-out valve means associated with each opening of the actuator for controlling the flow out of said actuator, and a pilot operated check valve operable for controlling flow from the meter-in valve means to one end of the actuator and for preventing flow out the end of said actuator, the pilot operated check valve being operable at a lower pilot pressure than the meter-out valve means and including time delay means such that the valve functions to prevent flow out of the actuator after a predetermined time delay from the time when pilot pressure to said meter-out valve means is interrupted, insuring relief valve protection.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1981Date of Patent: December 6, 1983Assignee: Vickers, IncorporatedInventor: Vinod K. Patent number: 4187763Abstract: An overload relief valve for use in preventing damage to the hydraulic system for adjustably positioning a working element, such as a blade. A single relief valve permits relief of high fluid pressure developed in either of the control cylinders by providing a crossover function therebetween under such conditions, as well as to relieve the fluid to tank in the event of a high pressure condition existing in both cylinders concurrently. The crossover relief may be effected by a similar first preselected high pressure condition in either of the cylinders.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1978Date of Patent: February 12, 1980Assignee: Gould Inc.Inventor: Vinod K.
