Publication number: 20210333012Abstract: An appliance for heating fluid includes a reservoir for holding the fluid during use. One or more ceramic heaters mount with the reservoir to heat the fluid. The heater includes electrically resistive traces thick-film printed on a substrate. The heaters optionally mount with a heat transfer element having a relatively large surface area. The heat transfer element typifies a conductive element, such as an aluminum plate of forged aluminum. The plate has cavities to retain the heaters or sections fitted about heaters. Holes through a thickness of the plate induce turbulent fluid flow as the fluid freely passes there through during use. Heater control and mounting are still other aspects of the technology.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 21, 2021Publication date: October 28, 2021Inventors: JERRY WAYNE SMITH, DAVID ANTHONY SCHNEIDER, JICHANG CAO, VIRGIL JOHNSON, JR.

Publication number: 20210333739Abstract: An assembly for an image forming device includes an access door movable between an open position permitting replacement of a replaceable unit and a closed position. An electrical connector in the image forming device is movable between a retracted position and an extended position. In the retracted position the electrical connector is disengaged from a corresponding electrical connector of the replaceable unit when the replaceable unit is installed in the image forming device. In the extended position the electrical connector is engaged with the corresponding electrical connector of the replaceable unit. The electrical connector is operatively connected to the access door such that movement of the access door from the closed to the open position moves the electrical connector from the extended to the retracted position and movement of the access door from the open to the closed position moves the electrical connector from the retracted to the extended position.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 21, 2021Publication date: October 28, 2021Inventors: VIRGIL JOHNSON, JR., DARREN ADAM KEESE, JAMES RICHARD LEEMHUIS

Publication number: 20210318657Abstract: An imaging device has a fuser assembly and a removably insertable cartridge with an activation device. The fuser assembly has a fusing nip that heats during use. A shutter moves between a fully opened and fully closed position to allow or block access to the fusing nip. A frame has an opening to allow passage of the activation device of the cartridge. During use, the shutter blocks access to the fusing nip until the activation device of the cartridge passes through the opening of the frame and contacts a corresponding activation surface, whereby the shutter begins opening and travels through a range of movement until reaching the fully opened position when the cartridge is fully inserted into the imaging device. Removal of the cartridge reverses the action of the shutter.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 9, 2021Publication date: October 14, 2021Inventor: VIRGIL JOHNSON, JR.

Patent number: 10527969Abstract: A method of operating an electrophotographic image forming device according to one example embodiment includes, by rotating a motor in a first rotational direction of the motor, rotating an input gear of a toner container in a first rotational direction of the input gear causing a toner agitator in a toner reservoir of the toner container to move for agitating toner in the toner reservoir. By rotating the motor in a second rotational direction of the motor, the input gear of the toner container rotates in a second rotational direction of the input gear causing an encoded member on the toner container to move. A sensor in the electrophotographic image forming device senses identifying information of the toner container encoded on the encoded member during movement of the encoded member and rotation of the input gear of the toner container in the second rotational direction of the input gear.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2018Date of Patent: January 7, 2020Assignee: Lexmark International, Inc.Inventors: Randal Scott Williamson, Virgil Johnson, Jr.

Publication number: 20190107806Abstract: A fuser assembly includes a housing having a front defining an entrance through which a media sheet with a toner image enters the fuser assembly to fuse the toner image onto the media sheet, and a rear defining an exit through which the media sheet with fused toner image exits the fuser assembly. A safety shutter is mounted on the front of the housing and is movable between an unblocking position and a blocking position relative to the entrance. In the unblocking position, the shutter uncovers the entrance. In the blocking position, the shutter covers at least a portion of the entrance. The shutter moves from the unblocking position to the blocking position when the fuser assembly is exposed to access by a user. The shutter physically blocks off the entrance of the fuser assembly to prevent possible user contact with interior components of the fuser assembly.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 10, 2017Publication date: April 11, 2019Inventors: VIRGIL JOHNSON, JR., ABRAHAM ARGENIO MAGNAWA, SETH EPHRAIM AMORA MIANO, GLENNA DONATO SISANTE, BYRONE AGUILAR VICTOR

Patent number: 4320738Abstract: This stove invention relates to wood and coal burning stoves employed for heating. More effective draft control and heat transfer is achieved by a stove (11) employing straight and serpentine flues (46, 48), a control rod (43) to coordinate movement of a baffle (38) and damper (41) for defining passageways to the flues, and a channel (33) for apportioning air above and below the fuel and into first and second combustion chambers (26, 27).Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1980Date of Patent: March 23, 1982Inventor: Virgil Johnson

Patent number: 4116383Abstract: Methods and apparatus for mixing fluids which pass through a plurality of fluid passageways arranged as a repeating pattern of clusters which form a geometric array are disclosed. The axes of the passageways are offset from the overall flow axis which is essentially perpendicular to the end plane of the array and each passageway is arranged in a predetermined position. The fluid flows through the passageways with a velocity having two components including a mean flow component which is parallel to the flow axis and a nonaxial component which is perpendicular to the flow axis. Although each nonaxial component for those passageways forming any given cluster acts in a direction different from the others, they interact and cooperate with each other to induce the fluid to swirl in a generally orbital fashion around the flow axis while simultaneously advancing along the flow axis downstream of the array.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1977Date of Patent: September 26, 1978Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventor: Bruce Virgil Johnson
