  • Publication number: 20140220175
Abstract: The present invention provides for improved pork products for human consumption and methods of producing such pork products by incorporating healthy lipids containing stearidonic acid into swine feed products. Furthermore, the present invention provides methods for producing said products. In one embodiment of the invention, an animal may be fed feed comprising a transgenic plant product. In other embodiments of the invention, pork meat products for human consumption, such meat products comprising SDA, EPA, and DHA are disclosed. In further embodiments of the invention, pork products comprising novel fatty acid profiles are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8362320
Abstract: The invention relates generally to methods and compositions concerning fungal desaturase enzymes that modulate the number and location of double bonds in long chain poly-unsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA's). In Particular, the invention relates to methods and compositions for improving omega-3 fatty acid profiles in plant products and parts using desaturase enzymes and nucleic acids encoding for such enzymes. In particular embodiments, the desaturase enzymes are fungal ?15 desaturases. Also provided are improved canola oil compositions having SDA and maintaining beneficial oleic acid content.

  • Patent number: 5633153
Abstract: The instant application provides a method of plant transformation in which plant cells are transformed with an aldehyde dehydrogenase gene capable of detoxifying a phytotoxic aldehyde selective agent. Transformed plant cells are cultured in the presence of the phytotoxic aldehyde selective agent to produce transformed shoots which may be regenerated to produce transformed plant cells containing the aldehyde dehydrogenase gene. The aldehyde dehydrogenase gene construct is linked to another gene construct of interest for expression in plant cells, wherein the aldehyde dehydrogenase gene acts as a selectable marker for transgenic plant cells containing the desired gene construct.
