  • Publication number: 20130218670
Abstract: In one aspect, a computing apparatus is configured to represent offer rules based on requirements for the detection of predefined types of events and actions scheduled to be performed in response to the detection of each occurrence of the events. The events are independent from each other in processing and are linked via prerequisite conditions and/or ineligibility conditions to formulate the requirements of an offer campaign. In one embodiment, the ineligibility of a user, participating in the offer campaign, to meet the requirements of a first event leads to the monitoring of a second event that has a prerequisite condition formulated based on the ineligibility of the user to meet the requirements of the first event; and the second event provides an alternative path within the offer campaign when the user cannot meet the requirements of the first event.

  • Publication number: 20130218664
Abstract: In one aspect, a computing apparatus is configured to allow merchants to initiate offers in an offer campaign based on a spending pattern specified by the merchant, such as the lack of transactions in a predetermined period of time of the day, in a recent time period, and/or in a particular merchant category. The offer campaign can be adjusted between offer delivery/announcement and fulfillment for a limited time period. The benefit of a further purchase may be announced via a message scheduled to be transmitted in response to an event identifying the arrival of a particular time instance, in response to a qualification notification of a transaction satisfying the requirements of a purchase event required in the offer campaign, or in response to the detection of a required spending pattern.

  • Publication number: 20130197991
Abstract: In one aspect, an account identifier is associated with a deal purchased by a user from a deal site. The deal has a face value applicable to a transaction with a predetermined merchant, if the transaction satisfies one or more predetermined criteria. The user pays the deal site an amount smaller than the face value. When the account identifier is used at a transaction terminal to initiate a payment transaction, a transaction handler determines whether the payment transaction satisfies the one or more predetermined criteria; and if so, the transaction handler provides the transaction terminal with an authorization response identifying the remaining balance, which is determined by deducting the face value from the payment transaction. The account identifier may be a one-time account number generated specifically for the deal purchased by the user, or an account number of the user used to purchase the deal from the deal site.

  • Publication number: 20130191213
Abstract: A computing apparatus is configured to formulate and adjust offers to users of mobile devices that are configured to capture identification information of products, such as UPC codes. The transaction data of the user, the activities of the user capturing the identification information of products, the location of the user, and the user's reactions to the offers are used to incrementally adjust the offers according to offer rules specified by the merchants. The mobile devices can be used to initiate a checkout process for purchasing items identified by the captured identification information of the products from the physical retail store at which the user is currently located, or via an online store associated with an offer presented via the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20130191198
Abstract: A computing apparatus is configured to store an offer provided to a plurality of users. The offer has a set of requirements to be met for a benefit, such as one or more purchase requirements, and a presence requirement formulated based on a time period, a geographic region, and a user limit. A user is determined to meet the presence requirement when the user is identified to be within the geographic region at a time during the time period before the current number of users who meet the presence requirement exceeds the user limit. The computing apparatus is configured to identify users who meet the presence requirement and monitor transactions in the financial payment accounts of such users to identify accounts that satisfy the purchase requirements, and configured to provide the benefit of the offer to the respective accounts that satisfy the set of requirements of the offer.

  • Publication number: 20130151323
Abstract: A computing apparatus is configured to receive, from a transaction handler of a payment network, an authorization request for a payment transaction. The authorization request identifies a full transaction amount, as well as information identifying the merchant and the cardholder involved in the transaction. The computing apparatus is configured to determine the cardholder's eligibility to receive a reward based on information provided in the authorization request, as well as offer information stored in association with the account information of the cardholder. When the cardholder is eligible for a reward, the computing apparatus deducts a reward amount from the transaction amount to authorize a partial amount for the transaction and provides a partial authorization response for the payment transaction. The partial authorization response may optionally include a description of the offer, the reward and/or an identifier of the offer.

  • Publication number: 20130124263
Abstract: A computing apparatus is configured to summarize transaction data via aggregating transactions according to geographical regions (e.g., based on postal codes) for a plurality of merchant categories, normalize the aggregated spending across the merchant categories for each geographical region, rank the regions for each category based on the normalized spending, generate percentile indicators based on the ranking result, and generate spending indices that are proportional to the normalized spending within each category. The spending indices and percentile indicators of a geographical region across the set of merchant categories represent a spending profile of the region. The spending profile is indicative of the spending preferences of the region but does not reveal the actual spending amounts of any individual, family or region. The spending profile can be used in targeted advertising, and in measuring advertisement audience and campaign performance.
