  • Patent number: 9591549
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, by which to facilitate frequency channel allocation, and reallocation, in a radio communication system. Channel allocation and reallocation is effectuated to attain a desired statistical emission spectrum. Implementation is effectuated, for instance, in a WLAN system operable pursuant to the IEEE 802.11 standard but implemented in a 5 GHz frequency band.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 19, 2004
Date of Patent: March 7, 2017
    Assignee: Noka Technologies Oy
Inventors: Antti Lappeteläinen, Visa Smolander, Juha Salokannel, Mika Kasslin
  • Publication number: 20070116033
Abstract: Systems and methods for a communication system implementing a short range communication link between devices advertising available information and services, and user devices which may initiate a request for further information or services. The communication system provides a low power solution utilizing an optimized combination of a carrier sensing and frequency division multiple access to avoid collisions. The optimization involves the use of a random mean zero value offset appended to the advertising devices' transmission frames. The offset increases the likelihood that a first advertising device will recognize the transmissions of another advertiser's transmissions (i.e., determining that a channel is busy) and avoid unnecessary transmissions that will result in collisions. Upon recognition, the first advertiser may shift its transmission frame accordingly, thereby avoiding transmission collisions between advertisers.

  • Patent number: 6944457
Abstract: The present invention relates to a communication system comprising devices (2a-2d) having means for short range communication using a certain frequency band. The frequency band is divided into communication channels. In the communication system some of said communication channels are predefined for establishment of the connection and other communication channels are predefined for data transfer between at least two devices. The present invention also relates to a communication device for communication in a communication system, the device having means for short range communication using a certain frequency band, which is divided into communication channels. The present invention further relates to a method for performing communication in a communication system comprising devices, which have means for short range communication using a certain frequency band, which is divided into communication channels.

  • Patent number: 6842605
Abstract: An assembly, and an associated method, for facilitating effectuation of a transmission power control scheme in a radio communication system, such as that defined in the IEEE 802.11 standard. Separate power schemes are defined in point control function operation and distributed control function operation of the communication system. Signaling is provided between network infrastructure and mobile stations to instruct the mobile stations to generate communication signals of selected power levels.

  • Patent number: 6671495
Abstract: The invention relates to a method in a wireless communication system (1) which includes wireless terminals (MT1-MT4) and at least one access point (AP1, AP2) and access point controller (APC1, APC2). At least one antenna configuration is determined for an antenna (30) of the wireless terminal (MT1-MT4). In the method, the antenna (30) of the wireless terminal (MT1-MT4) is used for receiving a radio signal and the strength of the radio signal received by the antenna (30) of the wireless terminal (MT1-MT4) is measured. A measurement message (HD1, D1) is formed of one or more measurements, which is transmitted from the wireless terminal (MT1-MT4) to the access point (AP1, AP2). Further in the method, data (UAC) about the antenna configuration during the measurement is added into the measurement message (HD1, D1).
