Patent number: 9663113Abstract: The disclosed system discourages drivers from manual use of mobile personal communications devices while operating a vehicle. Software installed on the mobile device uses the mobile device itself to determine whether the device is being used during operation of the vehicle. The system uses vehicle equipment for alerts that notify passengers as well as others outside the vehicle (such as owners, parents, other drivers, pedestrians, law enforcement agencies) that the driver is operating the vehicle while distracted by a communications device, and as such, may be operating the vehicle in an unsafe manner. The system can use a mobile device running a security app as a required or alternative entry and ignition key. A web portal enables remote control of the vehicle's systems and limitations on its operation in the presence of a particular device, even disassociating the vehicle from a particular mobile device, and provisioning of a replacement device.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 2015Date of Patent: May 30, 2017Assignee: PrevenText LLCInventors: Joseph Catania, Vito Catania

Patent number: 6772865Abstract: A retainer clip is used to maintain proper shoe contact and orientation for a cam actuated brake assembly. The cam actuated brake assembly includes a pair of brake shoes each having an anchor end and an actuation end. Each brake shoe is pivotally mounted at the anchor end to a brake spider with an anchor pin. When brakes are applied, a cam acts against the actuation end causing the brake shoes to pivot about axes defined by the anchor pins. Preferably the retainer clip is mounted to the brake shoe and includes a pair of hooks that support opposite ends of the anchor pin. The retainer clip cooperates with the anchor pins to maintain proper shoe geometry.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2001Date of Patent: August 10, 2004Assignee: Meritor Heavy Vehicle Technology, LLCInventor: Michael Vito Catania

Patent number: 6648111Abstract: A brake assembly is provided having a brake spider with a hole. An anchor pin is supported within the hole and includes end portions extending from the spider. The end portion has a first interlocking profile, which may be a recess or flat in the outer cylindrical surface of the anchor pin. The cylindrical surface extends preferably to the terminal ends of the pin. That is, the anchor pin has a generally uniform diameter across its length excluding the areas in which the recess or flat is arranged. A brake shoe includes a web having an aperture. The end portion of the anchor pin is at least partially disposed within the aperture. The aperture has a second interlocking profile complimentary to and mating with the first interlocking profile of the anchor pin to prevent relative rotation between the web and the end portion. The brake shoe and anchor pin will rotate in unison about the pivot point defined by the anchor pin to ensure the pin does not bond to the spider.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2001Date of Patent: November 18, 2003Assignee: Meritor Heavy Vehicle Technology, LLC.Inventor: Michael Vito Catania

Patent number: 6533301Abstract: An expandable insert secures a linkage bolt to the ends of a stabilizer bar. The insert comprises a cylindrical body portion, a cap, and an aperture. The insert is placed in the end of a stabilizer bar. As the linking bolt is torqued within the aperture of the insert, the threads of the linking bolt penetrate the insert. The torquing expands the insert outwardly towards the interior surface of the stabilizer bar, anchoring the insert inside the stabilizer bar and securing the linkage bolt to the end of the stabilizer bar.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2000Date of Patent: March 18, 2003Assignee: Meritor Suspension Systems CompanyInventor: Michael Vito Catania
