    Abstract: An electrodeless, low pressure gas discharge lamp includes a vitreous envelope containing a discharge medium and being shaped with an external chamber for receiving an electrical excitation circuit. The excitation circuit is effective for exciting the discharge medium to emit light with electromagnetic fields that are generated by the excitation circuit. A circuit is included for supplying electrical power from power mains to the excitation circuit. A transparent, electrically conductive coating is provided atop the vitreous envelope and is electrically connected substantially directly to one of the power mains at any given time. A transparent, electrically insulative coating is disposed atop the electrically conductive coating, and comprises a contiguous, inorganic glass layer. The insulative coating preferably has a minimum coating thickness of at least about 3.1 microns.

    Abstract: A compact fluorescent lamp having a lamp envelope with a plurality of lamp ends disposed within a housing or base configuration, utilizes an enhanced adhesive material for securing the lamp envelope to the housing or base that is reflective. The adhesive material has a reflective material added thereto that allows for the light typically absorbed or otherwise lost in the housing, to be reflected back out thereby improving the luminous efficiency of such lamp. The adhesive material is also effective for blocking UV radiation from entering the area in which electronic components of the ballast circuit may be disposed.

    Abstract: Disclosed is an electrodeless, low pressure gas discharge lamp. The lamp includes a vitreous envelope containing a metal vapor and an inert gas. The envelope is shaped with an external chamber for receiving an electrical excitation circuit. The excitation circuit is effective for exciting the metal vapor to emit light with electromagnetic fields that are passed through the vitreous envelope from outside, to inside, the envelope. A circuit supplies electrical power from power mains to the excitation circuit. A transparent, electrically conductive coating is disposed on the inner surface of the vitreous envelope for suppressing electromagnetic interference on the power mains. An electrically conductive coating is disposed on the outer surface of the vitreous envelope; it is capacitively coupled to the inner conductive coating, via a wall of the vitreous envelope, and is maintained at a suitable potential for suppressing electromagnetic interference on the power mains.

    Abstract: A simplified lamp mount structure for a reflector lamp unit is disclosed enabling improved automated assembly on existing manufacturing equipment. The lamp mount arrangement physically supports a tungsten-halogen lamp entirely with electrical conductors protruding from the lamp envelope and secured to refractory closure means located at the bottom portion of a reflector member. Various lamp unit embodiments employing such modified lamp mounts are also described.

    Abstract: A structure for supporting a light source within an electric lamp having an internal reflective surfaces of reduced dimensions is disclosed. The structure spatially supports the central portion of the light source relative to the reflective surface and comprises a pair of electrically conductive post which are affixed within openings in the bottom portion of the reflector. Barrier means are provided to prevent a cement substance filling the opening from escaping and entering the inner confines of the reflector lamp. In one embodiment the barrier means for preventing such escape is a washer positioned over each of the post and in another embodiment a glass bead is placed around each of the post to provide such barrier means.

    Abstract: This invention relates to aluminum phosphate refractory cement compositions which comprise a mixture of aluminum phosphate containing excess phosphoric acid, relatively small particle size alumina and a mixture of relatively medium and coarse particle size inert filler materials. This cement is useful for cementing tungsten-halogen lamps into glass reflectors. The aluminum phosphate is formed with an excess of phosphoric acid which reacts with the alumina when the cement is baked at elevated temperatures.
