Patent number: 11436053Abstract: A network appliance is configured to receive a packet having an address of a custom device as a source address. Policies are accessed that are applicable to a virtual network associated with the custom device. The policies are applied to the packet. A hairpin layer redirects the packet to a destination address contained in the packet. For subsequent packets, application of the policies is bypassed to the subsequent packets. Application of the policies is offloaded to an acceleration device.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2019Date of Patent: September 6, 2022Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Rishabh Tewari, Abhijeet Kumar, Neeraj Motwani, Daniel M. Patent number: 11240152Abstract: Techniques for exposing a subset of hosts on an overlay network, without exposing another subset of hosts on the overlay network, are disclosed. A component associated with an overlay network exposes a subset of hosts on the overlay network to components external to the overlay network. The component exposes the subset of hosts by distributing a mapping between (a) the hosts to-be-exposed and (b) the substrate addresses associated with the hosts. Alternatively, a component external to an overlay network exposes a subset of hosts on the overlay network to additional components external to the overlay network. The component exposes the subset of hosts by distributing a mapping between (a) the hosts to-be-exposed and (b) a substrate address associated with the particular component. In either embodiment, a mapping for hosts to-be-hidden is not distributed.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2019Date of Patent: February 1, 2022Assignee: Oracle International CorporationInventors: Peter John Hill, David Allen McArthur, Jagwinder Singh Brar, Vivek Bhanu, Chris Higgins

Patent number: 10681046Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for identifying an unauthorized device in a network environment that comprises a plurality of heterogeneous devices. In some embodiments, tests may be performed about a device, using information provided by the device, information about the device obtained from a neighboring device, or information about a placement of the device within a network topology. These tests may be used to determine whether a device is unauthorized for the network.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2017Date of Patent: June 9, 2020Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Abhoy Bhaktwatsalam, Vivek Bhanu, Chris Higgins

Patent number: 9471348Abstract: Computerized methods, systems, and computer-storage media for allowing virtual machines (VMs) residing on a common physical node to fairly share network bandwidth are provided. Restrictions on resource consumption are implemented to ameliorate stressing the network bandwidth or adversely affecting the quality of service (QoS) guaranteed to tenants of the physical node. The restrictions involves providing a scheduler that dynamically controls networking bandwidth allocated to each of the VMs as a function of QoS policies. These QoS policies are enforced by controlling a volume of traffic being sent from the VMs. Controlling traffic includes depositing tokens into token-bucket queues assigned to the VMs, respectively. The tokens are consumed as packets pass through the token-bucket queues. Upon consumption, packets are held until sufficient tokens are reloaded to the token-bucket queues.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2013Date of Patent: October 18, 2016Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Yue Zuo, Hoyuen Chau, Hoi Huu Vo, Samer N. Patent number: 8788715Abstract: A system and method for carrying out network and interface selections across multiple media is disclosed. The disclosed system facilitates automated network interface configuration decision-making that spans a set of networks supporting communications via differing media. A set of media specific modules associated with differing communications media acquire network interface status/capabilities information. A rules engine thereafter applies a designated network selection rule(s) to the acquired network interface status/capabilities information, and any other appropriate parameters attributable to either an interface or network, to select one or more networks and interfaces with which to establish/maintain a connection.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2011Date of Patent: July 22, 2014Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Anton Krantz, Warren V. Patent number: 8024487Abstract: A system and method for discovering and connecting to a preferred remote Bluetooth device by a local Bluetooth device. An inquiry scan cache and a page scan cache are maintained. The inquiry scan cache is updated by way of a periodic inquiry scan. The page scan cache is refreshed by way of an attempt to connect to the preferred remote Bluetooth device. Periodically, and more frequently than the periodic inquiry scan, a list of available remote Bluetooth devices is formed from entries in the inquiry scan cache concatenated with each entry in the page scan cache for which a page scan is successful. In one embodiment, the page scan cache holds a finite number of entries, and an expiration policy is applied to each added entry. In another embodiment, the inquiry scan cache is also updated when a remote Bluetooth device attempts to connect to the local Bluetooth device.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2003Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Vivek Bhanu, Siamak Poursabahian, Edwin A. Patent number: 7640288Abstract: A method, schema and computer system for a location service provides data structures that are extensible by allowing different types of location awareness applications to retrieve and deposit location data. The method includes providing an abstract location object arranged in a schema to enable servicing a received request for a logical location of an electronic endpoint; and arranging one or more location elements within the context of the abstract location object. The location elements are configured to act as peers relative to the logical location and each location element is configured to act as a proxy relative to any other location element within the abstract location object.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2004Date of Patent: December 29, 2009Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Yinghua Yao, Mohammad Shabbir Alam, Vivek Bhanu, Warren V. Patent number: 7448070Abstract: A network fingerprinting component for a computerized system issues network identifiers (NID) for computer networks. Identity confidences may be determined for each issued network identifier with respect to current computer networks. Computer network attributes may include passive network attributes and active network attributes. Retrieving values for active network attributes involves generating network traffic. As a result passive network attributes may be available to the network fingerprinting component before active network attributes. Learned identity confidence modifiers may be applied to identity confidences determined independent of active network attributes to achieve more accurate identity confidence sooner.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2003Date of Patent: November 4, 2008Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Warren V. A set of interoperating data structures are employed in an implementation of a PAN driver, including device control blocks and connection control blocks, which comprise finite state machines. Also disclosed are a method and system for setting and advertising multiple PAN profile roles in a Bluetooth device.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2003Date of Patent: September 11, 2007Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Siamak Poursabahian, Vivek Bhanu, Edwin A.
