System and method for dynamic bandwidth adjustments for cellular interfaces in a network environment
Patent number: 11374871Abstract: Techniques for interface bandwidth management. A wired interface bandwidth is configured for a wired interface of a router. A cellular interface bandwidth is configured for a cellular interface of cellular interfaces of the router. The cellular interface bandwidth includes an uplink bandwidth. One or more instantaneous uplink throughput values for the cellular interface are determined based on one or more uplink throughput per resource block values for the cellular interface. A predicted average uplink throughput for the cellular interface is determined based on the one or more instantaneous uplink throughput values. The uplink bandwidth is dynamically adjusted based on the predicted average uplink throughput determined for the cellular interface of the router.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2020Date of Patent: June 28, 2022Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Sujay Gopinathan, Jeslin Antony Puthenparambil, Swapna Anandan, Binod Roay, Vivek Datar -

System and method for dynamic bandwidth adjustments for cellular interfaces in a network environment
Patent number: 10700988Abstract: A method is provided in one example embodiment and may include determining a predicted average throughput for each of one or more cellular interfaces and adjusting bandwidth for each of the one or more of the cellular interfaces based, at least in part, on the predicted average throughput determined for each of the one or more cellular interfaces. Another method can be provided, which may include determining a variance in path metrics for multiple cellular interfaces and updating a routing table for the cellular interfaces using the determined variance if there is a difference between the determined variance and a previous variance determined for the cellular interfaces. Another method can be provided, which may include monitoring watermark thresholds for a MAC buffer; generating an interrupt when a particular watermark threshold for the MAC buffer is reached; and adjusting enqueueing of uplink packets into the MAC buffer based on the interrupt.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2015Date of Patent: June 30, 2020Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Sujay Gopinathan, Jeslin Antony Puthenparambil, Swapna Anandan, Binod Roay, Vivek Datar -
Patent number: 10666766Abstract: In one embodiment, a device in a network determines performance characteristics of a plurality of physical interfaces of the device. The device receives an application descriptive language-based description of performance requirements of a virtualized application for execution by the device. The device selects a particular one of the plurality of physical interfaces for use by the virtualized application during execution, based on the performance requirements of the virtualized application and on the performance characteristics of the plurality of physical interfaces. The device causes the virtualized application to use the selected physical interface during execution by the device.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2017Date of Patent: May 26, 2020Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Sujay Gopinathan, Jeslin Antony Puthenparambil, Vivek Datar, Binod Roay

Patent number: 10225774Abstract: In one embodiment, a device, having a first and a second network interface, detects a switchover by the first network interface from using a preferred wireless access standard to access a carrier network to using a second wireless access standard to access the carrier network. The device identifies when the preferred wireless access standard is again available from the carrier network using the second network interface and causes the first network interface to switch to using the preferred wireless access standard, based on identification by the second network interface that the preferred wireless access standard is again available from the carrier network.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2017Date of Patent: March 5, 2019Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Shivaji P. Diwane, Vivek Datar, Jeslin Antony Puthenparambil, Sendilvadivu Ganesan, Keith Dsouza, Sundara Paal Rani Thirumalaippan

Patent number: 8064362Abstract: In an example embodiment disclosed herein, Wide Area Network optimization modules coupled to peers are configured to maintain peer routing tables. The peer routing table (PRT) is used by the Wide Area Network optimization module to determine the peer for a given destination, such as an Internet Protocol “IP” destination. Each peer is responsible for advertising to other peers which networks the peer is able to reach. This information is advertised when a tunnel is first created and subsequently whenever necessary. Initially, a peer sends out a list of entries corresponding to its directly connected networks, with the exception of the network connected to the interface on which the peer is advertising (e.g. the network used for the tunnel). This enables other peers on the network to populate their PRT entries.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2008Date of Patent: November 22, 2011Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Joji Thomas Mekkattuparamban, Ming Chen, Akshya Kumar Singh, Jesper Skriver, Vivek Datar
