  • Publication number: 20160323789
Abstract: In accordance with exemplary embodiments, at least apparatus, methods, and computer program products perform selection of a reduced set of overlaying cells to provide access to a UE from a set of overlaying cells in a network using one or more RATs and multiple different frequencies and whose coverage areas for the cells in the set partially or completely overlay each other. The selection is based on location of the UE within the overlaying cells and estimates of coverage areas of the overlaying cells derived based on information including at least one of angles of arrival and reception-transmission difference information for UEs in the network. Distribution is performed of UEs across the selected overlaying cells based on a desired statistical distribution for the UEs across the cells in the reduced set of cells. The desired statistical distribution takes into account the one or more RATs and the multiple different frequencies.

  • Patent number: 9008660
Abstract: A method to perform successful RRC reestablishment across eNB seams in ping pong scenarios without data loss is described. The method includes, during a handover procedure of a UE from a source AP to a target AP, receiving, at the source AP, a reestablishment request from the UE. The reestablishment request includes a temporary identity assigned by the target AP for the UE. The method also includes determining a UE context based on the temporary identity assigned by the target AP and performing a reestablishment procedure between the source AP and the UE. Apparatus and computer readable media are also described.

  • Publication number: 20070110021
Abstract: Methods and systems for directing a call for a mobile station (MS) (400) to a band class in a wireless communication network (100) are provided. The wireless communication network includes a plurality of band classes (125). The method comprises the MS idling (405) in a first band class. The first band class is among the plurality of band classes. The method further comprises the MS receiving (410) an overhead message (305). The overhead message contains an alternate band class of the plurality of band classes. Further, the wireless communication network sends the overhead message if a predetermined criteria is met on the first band class. The method further includes switching (415) to the alternate band class in response to receiving the overhead message when the MS initiates a connection.

  • Publication number: 20070087713
Abstract: A method and system for balancing load across a carrier seam (108) is disclosed. The method includes generating a candidate carrier list (210) at a communication device (106). The candidate carrier list comprises carriers from at least two bands in a region of the multi-band cellular network. The method further includes selecting a band through a carrier selection from the candidate carrier list. A carrier is selected from carriers in the band. The communication device then connects to the carrier.

  • Publication number: 20060126564
Abstract: A communication system provides for a handoff of a hybrid mobile station (MS) between a legacy network implementing a non-high rate packet data (non-HRPD) communication technology and a network implementing a high rate packet data (HRPD) communication technology. In one embodiment, the legacy network receives a handoff trigger and redirects the MS to the HRPD network. In other embodiments, the legacy network (or HRPD network) receives a handoff trigger, obtains an allocation of HRPD network (or non-HRPD network) resources from the HRPD network (or non-HRPD network), and informs the MS of the allocated HRPD network (or non-HRPD network) resources. Subsequent to the establishment by the HRPD network (or non-HRPD network) of a traffic channel with the MS, the non-HRPD network (or HRPD network) releases non-HRPD network (or HRPD network) RF resources associated with the MS. In still other embodiments, the handoffs may be controlled by a Mobile Switching Center.
