  • Publication number: 20220176308
Abstract: A filter for removing gaseous components from a gas stream. The filter includes a frame with outer members and support members mounted thereto. The filter includes a prefilter layer disposed upstream in the frame and a reactive layer disposed in the frame downstream from the prefilter layer. The reactive layer includes particulate that removes gaseous components from the gas stream. A containment layer is disposed in the frame downstream from the reactive layer. The frame supports the layers from the airstream flowing through the filter. This configuration reduces the quantity of reactive material required and permits significant variability in the reactive materials used on the reactive layers because the different reactive layers have little to no effect on one another.

  • Publication number: 20210046417
Abstract: A material, and filters and other structures exposed to flowing gas that have the material therein, which removes VOCs, such as formaldehyde, from the gas. The material is a porous sorbent impregnated by a metal oxide, such as manganese oxide (MnOx) nano particles. The sorbent may be activated carbon, and the manganese oxide may catalyze formaldehyde to water and carbon dioxide while the carbon may adsorb formaldehyde, both mechanisms of which remove the VOC from the air to prevent or reduce inhalation of the same by humans. The material may be combined with an untreated sorbent or sorbent treated with ionic alkaline salts.

  • Publication number: 20180147554
Abstract: An enhanced, surface modified activated carbon for filter media, having a higher capacity for removing specific contaminants, such as H2S, SO2, Cl2, CCl4, NH3, and HCHO, and a process for making the same. The surface of the activated carbon is modified with molybdenum and molybdenum-derivatives to enhance the activated carbon chemisorption capacity.

  • Publication number: 20170225968
Abstract: A filter media for the filtration of potable water; specifically, for the removal of arsenic from potable water using iron-impregnated activated carbon enhanced with titanium oxide, such as the titanium oxide mixture used in the commercial product MetsorbĀ®. The activated carbon is subjected to a wet impregnation process using an iron salt solution of approximately 6% of iron(III) chloride FeCl3 solution and 1.25% of NaOH solution.
