  • Patent number: 9578117
Abstract: Described are techniques and systems for service discovery on a network. A media device on the network generates a signature indicative of a particular set of one or more services available for execution on the media device. The signature may be distributed on the network using beacon transmissions from the media device. A receiving media device compares the signature with previously stored service data which associates signatures with service sets. The stored service data may include a local signature indicative of a local service set. Determinations of a match result in the receiving media device using the previously stored data. Unmatched signatures may result in the receiving media device sending a request for service set data. The received service set data may then be used to provide service availability information. The received service set data and associated signature may be added to the stored service data.

  • Patent number: 9277500
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for reducing power consumption in a device while maintaining a wireless local area network connection. An interface processor of a wireless interface is configured to maintain a network connection while an application processor is in a low power mode. The interface processor may awaken the application processor to a high power mode upon receipt of a wakeup signal, loss of network connection, detection of a network suitable for connection, or other pre-determined event.

  • Patent number: 9154483
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for secure configuration provisioning of network credentials to configure a device to join one or more networks. One implementation provides for distribution of network credentials to associated devices without user intervention while maintaining security and avoiding distribution of the network credentials to external devices, such as a third-party server. Devices may be associated by purchase from a common merchant, registration to a common account, and so forth.

  • Patent number: 9107164
Abstract: A network device may include first and second processors and a wireless transceiver under control of the second processor. The network device may further maintain one or more signatures and a wake-up module executable by the second processor. The wake up module may receive a multicast wireless communication while the first processor is in a low-power sleep mode. The wake up module may determine whether a data portion of the multicast wireless communication includes a signature. If the data portion of the wireless communication includes the signature, the wake up module may cause the first processor to leave the low-power sleep mode and process the multicast wireless communication.

  • Publication number: 20150088966
Abstract: Described are techniques and systems for providing a user interface which provides information about one or more activities being performed by services available among affiliated devices. The information is based on activity data which may be obtained through a subscription-publication mechanism with the affiliated devices. The user interface may also provide activity controls to modify the one or more activities.

  • Patent number: 8897152
Abstract: A user device establishes a wireless connection with a wireless local area network using a first radio. The user device then deactivates a second radio of the user device based on establishing of the wireless connection with the wireless local area network. Subsequently, the user device determines whether to activate the second radio based on at least one criterion associated with the wireless connection.

  • Publication number: 20090170557
Abstract: A client device capable of utilizing a plurality of media for facilitating communication. The plurality of media may include a first medium implemented based on a first set of communication standards and a second medium implemented based on a second set of communication standards, wherein the second set of communication standards is different from the first set of communication standards. The client device may include a protocol module for translating a user request into a data set, wherein the user request may pertain to a communication feature among a plurality of communication features. The client device may also include a mapping module for ascertaining a utilized medium that is utilized by the client device, wherein the utilized medium is one of the plurality of media. The mapping module may also convert the data set into at least part of a signal suitable for signaling through the utilized medium.

  • Patent number: 7031555
Abstract: A system and method indexes an image database by partitioning an image thereof into a plurality of cells, combining the cells into intervals and then spots according to perceptual criteria, and generating a set of spot descriptors that characterize the perceptual features of the spots, such as their shape, color and relative position within the image. The shape preferably is a derivative of the coefficients of a Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) of the perimeter trace of the spot. The set of spot descriptors forms as an index entry for the spot. This process repeated for the various images of the database. To search the index, a key comprising a set of spot descriptors for a query image is generated and compared according to a perceptual similarity metric to the entries of the index. The metric determines the perceptual similarity that the features of the query image match those of the indexed image. The search results are presented as a scored list of the indexed images.

  • Patent number: 6563959
Abstract: Method of effective search and retrieval through large collections of images is presented. Search criteria are based on perceptual similarity of images. Method is capable to process such images as bitonal, gray-scale and colorful, either of artificial or “real” world origin. Continuos-tone “real scene” images such as digitized still pictures and video frames are the primary objects of interest. Search operation starts from creating of an index out of a query image. Next, the index is to be applied as a key for searching through the index database. Index creation is a multi-step procedure, wherein the essential stages are: dissection of an image into areas of free shapes (spots) and computation of certain properties for each one. The properties are shape, color and relative position within the whole image. Spot shape is stored as derivatives of coefficients of DFT applied to a spot perimeter trace. Thus, every spot is represented by a set of numerical values (spot descriptor).
