Publication number: 20090011759Abstract: In a mobile telecommunications network, a subscriber having a primary subscription on a home mobile network registers one or more flexible subscriber numbers on a secondary network that are associated with the primary subscription. A caller places a call to a subscriber through a serving network using the flexible subscriber number. The flexible subscriber number is translated into a primary MSISDN and the call is connected to the subscriber so that roaming charges to the subscriber are minimized.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 2, 2007Publication date: January 8, 2009Applicant: Telefonaktiebolaget LM EricssonInventors: Vladimir Alperovich, Martin Reichelt

Patent number: 7218952Abstract: A method, system and apparatus in a wireless communications system selectively utilizes the Internet for the transmission of information. In a first embodiment, a subscriber can activate an Internet call forwarding (ICF) supplementary service (SS). From the subscriber's Mobile Station, an ICF message is transmitted to and stored in the subscriber's Home Location Register (HLR). The ICF message may optionally designate an Internet protocol (IP) address destination and may optionally activate other features pursuant to the data type received. For example, the ICF message may request that only fax/data calls or only calls that would otherwise incur a long distance charge be forwarded over/through the Internet. In operation, an incoming call to a Gateway Mobile Services Switching Center (GMSC) causes the GMSC to interrogate the called party's HLR. The information in the incoming call is then forwarded either over/through the Internet or over the PSTN based on the features activated by the ICF message.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1998Date of Patent: May 15, 2007Assignee: Ericsson Inc.Inventors: Vladimir Alperovich, Eric Valentine

Patent number: 6751477Abstract: Systems and methods for dynamically optimizing the fidelity of a speech signal received from a wireless telephony device and transmitted through a packet-switched network. In an exemplary embodiment, at least one Quality of Speech (QoS) transmission characteristic is determined for a packet-switched network intermediate to the a first Media Gateway (MGW) and a second MGW; the fidelity of speech transmitted through the packet-switched network being a function of the QoS transmission characteristic. A speech codec is dynamically-selected as a function of the QoS transmission characteristic of the packet-switched network. The speech signal is encoded into speech data using the dynamically-selected speech codec, and transmitted through the packet-switched network from the first MGW to the second MGW. The second MGW decodes the speech data using the dynamically-selected speech codec.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2000Date of Patent: June 15, 2004Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Vladimir Alperovich, Andreea Timberlake

Patent number: 6728215Abstract: A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for allowing a mobile station to determine whether or not to place a wireless call through an internet protocol (IP) based local area network (LAN) based upon broadcasted Quality of Service (QOS) information. The gatekeeper within the IP based LAN has access to the QOS information and periodically sends the QOS to the base station controller (BSC) functionality within the access node (AN) of the IP based LAN. The BSC functionality then transmits the QOS parameter on the System Information message via the base transceiver station (BTS) to the mobile stations served by the BTS. The mobile stations receive this QOS information and use this QOS information to decide upon a transport method to complete outgoing wireless calls.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1998Date of Patent: April 27, 2004Assignee: Ericsson Inc.Inventors: Vladimir Alperovich, Ranjit Bhatia

Publication number: 20030165124Abstract: A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for monitoring the activity within a local area network (LAN), and, if the LAN traffic levels are above a threshold level such that wireless speech quality drops below an acceptable level, a handover of mobile communications can be performed to either a non-LAN based umbrella cell, or to another cell associated with a different LAN. A monitoring application within an Access Node (AN) of the LAN monitors the LAN conditions through the LAN management system (LMS). Based upon the information obtained from LMS, the new monitoring application in the AN can request a handover to be performed from the LAN based network to either the non-LAN umbrella cell or to another cell associated with another LAN system. Thus, the speech quality of mobile communications can be maintained in periods of high LAN traffic, and the load on the LAN can be maintained without adding further congestion due to mobile communications.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 30, 1998Publication date: September 4, 2003Inventors: VLADIMIR ALPEROVICH, RANJIT BHATIA, ERIC VALENTINE

Patent number: 6600738Abstract: A communications system (36) and method (60, 80) of serving subscribers having an originating network (14) in communication with a terminating network (32) via a core network (24). The core network (24) includes a plurality of external gateways (40, 42, 44) each adapted to route calls therebetween, with each gateway (40, 42, 44) having at least one codec (50, 52, 54). The communications system (36) includes a network node (37) for processing call requests from the subscribers having a particular codec type, wherein available gateways (40, 42, 44) are ranked based on gateway codec availability, the core network (24) being adapted to route a call as a function of the ranking.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1999Date of Patent: July 29, 2003Assignee: Ericsson, Inc.Inventors: Vladimir Alperovich, Andreea Timberlake

Publication number: 20030106556Abstract: The device claimed refers to means for human respiration organ protection against dust-like particles—in particular, against allergen-carrying particles. It may be used as a nasal filter, as a filter in respirators, and so forth. The device comprises a hollow body having one or several inlet channels and one outlet orifice that are intended for the passage of inhaled air, with the inner surface of said body having such a shape that is close to the shape of a truncated cone, and said inlet channels are made in the major base of the cone with the direction of the axis of each of the channels being combined out of the tangential component and axial component, while the outlet orifice is made in the vertex (minor base) of the cone, and the inner body surface is covered with a sticky substance capable of retaining dust and allergen particles contained in the inhaled air. Cleaning of inhaled air takes place in filter's “vortex chamber” formed by the body of the above-indicated shape.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 24, 2002Publication date: June 12, 2003Inventors: Vladimir Alperovich, Valery Peary, Michael Gershman, Simon Litvin

Patent number: 6477366Abstract: A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for creating “virtual Citizen's Band (CB) radio channel groups” within a cellular network. In a first embodiment, the virtual channel groups are built within the Mobile Switching Center (MSC). Each mobile subscriber participant is associated with the other mobile subscriber participants in the MSC, using a transaction identifier and conference bridges. Each group can be monitored, and each individual participants communication link can be controlled independently to facilitate individual disconnection. In a second embodiment, the virtual channel groups are built directly over the air. Participating mobile subscribers within range of each other can communicate directly with one another, using the same forward and reverse traffic channels.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1999Date of Patent: November 5, 2002Assignee: Ericsson Inc.Inventors: Eric Valentine, Vladimir Alperovich, Walt Evanyk
