  • Patent number: 8668413
Abstract: A coupler for a quick change rotary cutting tool assembly allowing a cutter to be quickly and releasably coupled to a shank wherein the coupler has a cylindrical portion with a threaded portion to engage the shank and a portion with a transverse groove with undercut walls to form recesses. The cutter has an anchor made as a disk with parallel flats which engage the recesses of the cylindrical portion to releasably secure the cutter to the shank.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 20, 2010
Date of Patent: March 11, 2014
    Assignee: Kennametal Inc.
    Inventor: Vladimir David Volokh
  • Patent number: 8647023
Abstract: A slotting cutter includes a disc-like cutter body rotatable in a predetermined direction on a central axis perpendicular to a plane of the cutter body. A plurality of cutting insert receiving pockets and a corresponding number of thread holes are formed about a perimeter of the body. A cutting insert is replaceably mounted in each insert receiving pocket of the cutter body, and a clamping screw is replaceably threaded in each thread hole of the cutter body. A cantilevered portion is disposed between each insert receiving pocket and a respective thread hole that exerts a downward force to securely hold the cutting insert in the cutter body when the clamping screw is threaded into the thread hole.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 4, 2011
Date of Patent: February 11, 2014
    Assignee: Kennametal Inc.
Inventors: Vladimir David Volokh, James Michael Waggle

  • Patent number: 7959382
Abstract: A center or non-center cutting end mill for orbital drilling includes a shank having a shank diameter; a neck having a neck diameter; a cutting head having a cutting diameter; a corner radius; a dish angle; and a longitudinal axis, the cutting head including a forward cutting end having a convexly curved section located between the longitudinal axis and the corner radius, wherein the convexly curved section causes material removed from a workpiece to flow radially outward from an initial contact area toward the corner radius, thereby minimizing the accumulation of material in a central portion of the forward cutting end.
