  • Patent number: 6794797
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for the reflection of optical beams (25), provided with a piezo-plate (14), which has piezo-electric regions (15, 16), controlled by piezo electrodes (20, 21). At least one end section (22) of the piezo plate (14) is free of piezo electrodes (20, 21), whereby said free end section (22) is of a size, corresponding to the dimensions of the beams falling thereon. A deflection is thus achieved which leaves the wavefronts of the beams (25) essentially undisturbed.

  • Publication number: 20040096160
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for multiplying light frequencies, especially laser light. Said device comprises an optically non-linear element having a rigid structure with normal regions and inversion regions, the direction of the spontaneous polarization in the inversion regions being inverted in relation to the normal direction in the normal regions. The inventive device also comprises electrodes for producing an electric field. The aim of the invention is to create a device which enables light frequencies to be multiplied and a higher conversion efficiency of a coupled pumping wave in relation to known devices. To this end, the grid structure consists of at least one first grid section (21; 41; 65), the electrodes (29, 30; 51, 52; 54, 55; 58, 59, 60; 72, 73) being associated with the second grid section (22; 42; 66).

  • Patent number: 6204952
Abstract: A Bragg modulator modulates the intensity of a light beam, in particular of a laser beam. The Bragg modulator includes an electro-optic crystal wafer with a rectangular top face, in particular a lithium niobate or lithium tantalate crystal wafer, and a grid structure with normal zones and inversion zones. In the inversion zones, the direction of the spontaneous polarization is inverted compared to a normal direction in the normal zones. Electrodes are disposed on the top and bottom faces of the crystal wafer to generate an electric field therebetween. The grid structure is spaced apart from the front, back and side faces of the crystal wafer and is completely covered by the electrodes. The inversion zones of the grid structure are disposed at the Bragg angle (&THgr;B) relative to the direction of a light beam entering the front face of the crystal wafer. The entire grid structure is positioned such that the refracted light beam exits the crystal wafer on its rear face.

  • Patent number: 5920662
Abstract: The invention concerns a planar electro-optical light-beam deflector with a line of prismatic deflectors, arranged side by side, exhibiting electrodes to which an electric voltage can be applied. It is essential to the invention that the light beam is conveyed in a Z-cut lithium niobate or lithium tantalate crystal, preferably in a monomodal layer waveguide extending along the surface of the latter, the prismatic deflectors each consisting of two triangular or prismatic zones in which a largely uniform polarization direction is generated by inversion of the polarization direction determined by the E-field vector in domains with spontaneous polarization in the opposite direction, each triangular zone exhibiting polarization in the direction opposite to that of the one adjacent to it, and that a rectangular electrode covering the triangular zones is attached to the upper side of the crystal and a counterelectrode to the lower side of the same.
