  • Patent number: 5184753
Abstract: An improvement in liquid measuring apparatus and method of the type in which a desired amount by weight of a liquid is measured by the placement of a corresponding volume of liquid in a liquid metering chamber compensates for changes in the density of the liquid resulting from variations in the temperature of the liquid in the metering chamber by selectively operating one or more of a plurality of separate incremental volume elements to establish changes in the volumetric capacity of the metering chamber in predetermined increments of volume corresponding to the predetermined volume of each of the selected separate incremental volume elements, the improvement further including selectively dispensing one or more fractions of the total amount of liquid in the liquid metering chamber to dispense the desired amount of liquid.

  • Patent number: 4880039
Abstract: An improvement in apparatus and method for measuring a prescribed volume of liquid by flowing the liquid into a reservoir and sensing the level of the liquid in the reservoir to determine when a known volume is reached places that level within a portion of the reservoir having a much-reduced cross-sectional area compared to the cross-sectional area of the remainder of the reservoir such that any inaccuracy in the sensing of the level to determine when the known volume is reached results in only a minimal deviation in the measured volume of liquid from the prescribed volume of liquid.

  • Patent number: 4445627
Abstract: Gravimetric apparatus is provided to mechanically adjust the internal capacity of a volumetric liquid dispensing cavity, such as a metering cavity, to compensate for decrease in density and expansion of said liquid at ambient temperatures above the temperature of maximum density of said liquid. The apparatus includes a liquid displacing member, preferably in the form of an elongated bar which is inserted into the liquid metering cavity to decrease the volumetric capacity thereof, and which may be moved manually or automatically inwardly or outwardly of the cavity to vary the capacity of the cavity in such a manner that it will always contain a volumetric charge of liquid having a weight equal to the same charge of liquid at its maximum density.

  • Patent number: 4284210
Abstract: A static metering pump includes a pair of tanks, electrically operated inlet and outlet valves, liquid level sensors and controls which permit the alternate filling of a first of the tanks while permitting the discharging of liquid from a second of the tanks and then permitting the discharging of liquid from the first tank while filling the second tank. The cycle of filling and discharging of the tanks is repeated until a preselected volume of liquid is dispensed with precise metering. The two tanks are adapted to dispense the same volume of liquid in normal operation. Where the total volume of dispensed liquid called for includes a fraction of the normal volume of the tanks, one of the tanks is provided with a fractional liquid level sensor which may be preset to fill this tank initially to the fractional volume and to commence the metering operation by the discharge of this tank.

  • Patent number: 3960295
Abstract: A liquid proportioning system includes two groups of positive metering tanks, each group consisting of at least two tanks each containing a supply of liquid to be blended and including outlet control device for selectively regulating the volume of liquid leaving the tank per unit of time. The liquids from each tank are fed together through a single conduit to a mixer which continuously blends the liquid components as they are flowing, and the blended liquids are fed to a reservoir tank, from which they are fed to a point of use in accordance with the variable requirements of the latter. One group of positive metering tanks feeds the liquid components to the mixer in exact proportions until these tanks are depleted, at which time the flow from these tanks is shut off automatically and the second group of tanks begins to feed the portioned liquid components to the mixer, while the first group of tanks are refilled.
