A flocculating suspension is separated from the liquid by filtration in a fluidized layer in a sludge blanket, wherein the flocks are created from the separated suspension and fluidization is maintained by the rising stream of liquid while liquid with suspension enters the fluidized layer from the bottom and the liquid freed from suspension is discharged above the surface of the sludge blanket represented by the interface between the fluidized layer and the liquid without suspension. Thickened separated suspension in the form of flocks from a sludge blanket is withdrawn from a zone of the fluidized layer the velocity of upward flow in the fluidized layer decreasing in the upward direction.

Abstract: Biological activation waste water purification method is disclosed, wherein the waste water is biologically purified in an activation process. Activated sludge is pumped into a circulation circuit comprising a flow channel and at least one distribution channel. Raw waste water is added to the activated sludge to form an activation mixture which is gradually denitrified as it flows through the circulation circuit. The activation mixture is aerated so as to suspend the activated sludge in the mixture while gradually saturating the activation mixture with oxygen so as to change the denitrifying of the mixture to the nitrifying of a mixture as the mixture flows through the circulation circuit. The activation mixture then flows to a fluidized bed filter where it is separated into purified water and activated sludge.

Abstract: Reactor for biological sewage purification having a tank with a casing and a bottom surface and a funnel-shaped member in the tank. An activation space is defined between the casing and the funnel-shaped member and a separation space is defined inside the funnel-shaped member with a passage in the funnel-shaped member for communication between both spaces. A partition extends from the casing to the funnel-shaped member. A recirculation means defines an inlet communicating with the separation spaces and an outlet communicating with the activation space. A circulation circuit is formed for circulating fluid between the activation space and the separation space.

Abstract: In order to improve the efficiency of biological reactors for water cleaning with fluid filtration, the activated sludge descending from the space of the fluid filter is simultaneously forcibly sucked-off into the activating space due to a stream of the activating mixture in the close neighborhood of the stream of the returning activated sludge at the place of its entrance into the activating space. Pumping can be applied for the sucking-off function.

Abstract: Method of biological activating cleaning of waste waters containing nitrogenous materials at conditions of a lowly loaded sludge with simultaneous nitrification of organic nitrogen and ammonia to nitrates while using fluid filtration and an arrangement for execution of this method where the waste water, after its activating cleaning with supply of oxygen, is subsequently cleaned in the course of fluid filtration by denitrification without presence of oxygen creating flotating sludge which is circulated at least partly to the aerobic activating cleaning.

Abstract: Arrangement for biological activating cleaning of waste waters having a separating space and an activating space, the separating space being disposed above the activating space in a single container. The arrangement permits a surface take-off of cleaned water without reduction of the capacity for water treatment of the arrangement. In case part of the biocenology of the activated sludge becomes extinct or impaired, the arrangement permits an easy removal of sludge separated by floating from the surface of the content of the separating space.

Abstract: Arrangement for the biological cleaning of water, said arrangement being suitable for large urban stations for cleaning sewage or for the cleaning of waste waters of industrial plants. The arrangement comprises an activating system with pneumatic aeration and a separating system communicating therewith, the arrangement operates on the basis of fluid filtration and automatic return of activated sludge into the activating system by gravitation. Suitable partition walls in a large container form a number of part activating spaces and part separating spaces; by suitable interconnections, by rectifying walls, by the supply of raw water, and by aeration a convenient streaming flow of the liquid and an advantageous operation of the arrangement are obtained.

Abstract: An improved technique for reprocessing, through a reaction zone, a portion of an agitated flow of waste water that is coupled into a wedge-shaped or frusto-conical separating zone via such reaction zone is described. A recirculation conduit, independent of an inlet aperture at the bottom of the separating zone for admitting an upward flow of water from the separating zone, has an inlet end communicating with the separating zone at an upper region thereof, the outlet of the recirculation zone emptying into the agitated water stream in the reaction zone. The inlet aperture at the bottom of the separating zone has a cross-sectional area which is small relative to the cross-sectional area of the separating zone and small relative to the cross-sectional area of the reaction zone.

Abstract: A cylindrical reaction chamber for purifying waste water has a separating zone extending substantially along its entire length and bounded transversely by first and second downwardly converging partition walls. The space in the vessel between the vessel wall and the first and second walls form separate waste water activation zones, in at least one of which an aerating device is disposed. Such zones are so configured that separate, oppositely directed transverse swirls of the waste water are established in the respective activating zones. A portion of the agitated water, after suitable treatment by baffle plates to remove the transverse swirling component, is introduced into the bottom of the separating zone for purification via fluid filtration.

Abstract: An apparatus for biological and chemical purification of water by agglomeration having a number of parallel, horizontal tanks, aligned side by side, the length of which is larger than their diameter, with inclined conduits advantageously tangential to both adjacent tanks connecting said tanks. The space determined by the inclined walls, adjacent upper parts of the mantles of the tanks, and by front and rear walls serve as a separating space for separating the floccular suspension from the purified water.
