  • Patent number: 6144544
Abstract: A method and apparatus for treating an object includes generating a magnetic field wherein at least some of the magnetic field is characterized by changes in amplitude of the magnetic field from an average non-zero value of the magnetic field. The object is placed in the influence of the magnetic field for a sufficient time to subject the object to the changes in amplitude of the magnetic field. A method and apparatus for determining a preferred field intensity of the magnetic field is also included.

  • Patent number: 4817700
Abstract: The squeeze-out casting machine comprises a base-plate for reciprocation therealong, half-molds and sealing jaws with pour-in ports adapted to overlap closingly as the half-molds are being brought together. The baseplate has rigidly secured theroen a centering pin supporting a frame with a core unit. The core unit defines jointly with the base plate, the sealing jaws and the portions of the half-molds adjoining the baseplate and a metal-receiving chamber. There is also an arrangement for supplying an inert gas communicating with the metal-receiving chamber.

  • Patent number: 4519437
Abstract: A casting-by-squeezing mold having a base, mold halves, and enclosing cheeks. One of the mold halves is movably mounted on the base so that the two mold halves can be driven apart and brought together to form a complete mold. The internal surfaces of the base, mold halves and cheeks form a cavity. One of the mold halves has projections which divide it into three chambers. The first, lower chamber is a metal receiving chamber; the second, side chamber is a feeding chamber; the third, central chamber is a molding chamber. A variable-volume cavity is provided, which communicates with the metal receiving chamber so that the level of the metal in the receiving chamber can be adjusted to a predetermined level.

  • Patent number: 4458743
Abstract: A set of half molds mounted so that they are movable on a base and when drawn together, form a split mold which can be taken apart upon separation, the half molds have spaces which form slit gates communicating with a metal receiver and the central cavity of the half molds, whose surfaces form the surfaces of the casting. At least one of the side surfaces of the slit gate-forming spaces is made step-shaped in the direction of molten metal level so that upon the drawing together of the half molds, the accuracy in raising the level of the molten metal may be enhanced.
