  • Patent number: 10986983
Abstract: A stereo-imaging device that operates by translating a single lens in front of an exposed imaging sensor, or translating one of the objective lens group for higher image quality. The device and method is used as a surgical instrument guide. An objective lens with a translating lens part can directly attached in front of a camera with an exposed sensor or an endoscopic circuit with an exposed imaging fiber bundle surface to capture/record the image shift generated by the lens translation. The stereo-imaging device can realize a camera which can swing back and forth from regular 2D image capturing mode to the stereo mode to capture images for 3D viewing, or a switchable stereo endoscope without size increases of multiple imaging systems to be used for periodical 3D inspections.

  • Patent number: 9167959
Abstract: Light is directed between the arms of a forceps to illuminate an area under debridement of foreign material with a color selected to enhance contrast of foreign material that needs to be removed. The light comes from a multicolor source such as an LED chip having RGBW dies and is transmitted by a light transmitting element such as an elongated waveguide or a light pipe to illuminate the area under examination. The color is selectable so as to obtain a color that has good contrast for the foreign material. The apparatus has a docking station to install the forceps so that it is properly located with respect to the illumination. A camera can be part of the apparatus to transmit imagery to a display.

  • Patent number: 7909484
Abstract: Apparatus and method for using a light source to incapacitate a subject by a pattern of temporal flashing and/or color flashing of the light source. The light source is preferably an array of light emitting diodes. • Publication number: 20080082091
Abstract: A catheter tip for delivering laser light energy to create lesions extending to a depth of several millimeters in tissue includes an elongated, flexible housing. A reflector is oriented longitudinally in a channel the housing. A side emitting optical fiber diffuser, extending the length of the reflector, is held at a fixed separation from the reflector. The reflector and the side emitting diffuser are configured and spaced to provide a convergent beam directed through the tissue under treatment. Reflector curvature may be circular or elliptical in cross section, or other selected shape. The diffuser and reflector relative positioning being selected to place the beam focal point (or image) at a predetermined lateral distance from the reflector preferably not closer than the far wall of the tissue under treatment. Temperature probes are provided to monitor the temperature gradient through the tissue thickness. Optionally cooling and/or irrigation fluid are provided.

  • Patent number: 7180426
Abstract: Apparatus and method for using an light source to incapacitate a subject in which the light source strobes by a spatial scanning through a pattern and a temporal flashing at a rate sufficient to cause incapacitation. The strobing (meaning both spatial scanning and temporal flashing is in a pattern to prevent the subject from escaping the strobing effect. The flashing is timed so that each flash point in the pattern will flash at a rate and sequence to cause incapacitation. In a preferred embodiment, the light source is an array of LEDs or laser diodes.

  • Patent number: 6201915
Abstract: A remote light source lighting system is provided having an illuminator assembly including a housing. Held within the housing is a high intensity light source for providing light energy to a fiber optic cable bundle connected to the housing and facing the light source. The cable bundle includes a plurality of plastic optical fibers wherein at least one of the terminal ends of the bundle is formed by molding an optical quality resin around an optically transparent ferrule that binds the exposed ends of the optical fibers. The housing further includes a separate air plenum containing a blower. The blower produces a high velocity air stream directed precisely at the terminal end of the cable adjacent the light source to cool the terminal end.

  • Patent number: 5426474
Abstract: A projection system using a randomized fiber optic bundle for generating a wide variety of fluid visual images. A light source focusses light through a multiple color filter onto the input end of a fiber optic bundle having a plurality of optical fibers and held in a cylindrical shape. The fiber optic bundle includes a plurality of fiber optic groups that are interwoven such that the arrangement of the fiber optic groups at the fiber optic bundle's input end is different from the arrangement of the fiber optic groups at the fiber optic bundle's output end. The multiple color filter is movable such that light of time-varying color is directed into each of the optical fibers. The time-varying colored light is received by a projection lens and imaged at a target.
