  • Patent number: 10585325
Abstract: An electrophoretic medium that may be incorporated into an electrophoretic display includes a dispersion that may be contained in a plurality of microcapsules or microcells or a polymeric continuous phase. The dispersion may include a non-polar fluid, a plurality of first charged particles; and an inhibitor of photo-thermally induced polymerization that inhibits potential cross-linking between the particles and/or the microcells or polymeric continuous phase. The inhibitor may be a compound having an unsaturated hydrocarbon ring and at least one of a hydroxyl group, a carbonyl group, and a nitroso group. The plurality of microcells or polymeric continuous phase and a coating of the particles may include a polymeric material that includes (meth)acrylates.

  • Publication number: 20180246597
Abstract: A writeable system that includes pen-like visual feedback and digitization of the stylus strokes. The system incorporates disappearing ink into a stylus (i.e., pen) that is configured to interact with a digitizing layer of an electrophoretic display. The electrophoretic display includes a clear protective sheet that can be written on with the disappearing ink. As the stylus is moved over the display, an ink trail is left on the display, however, after a short amount of time, the ink fades as the writing in replaced with an updated image corresponding to the stylus motion.

  • Patent number: 9765015
Abstract: Additives for electrophoretic media comprising esters of branched polyols and fatty acids, such as esters of pentaerythritol propoxylate (5/4 PO/OH) and stearic acid. The fatty acids may be saturated or unsaturated, branched or unbranched. In some embodiments, the fatty acids are perfluorinated, or partially fluorinated. In some embodiments, the branched polyol will include oligomers of polypropylene oxide or polyethylene oxide. When the additives are included in an electrophoretic medium in a display, the resulting display has an improved contrast ratio and reducing ghosting.

  • Publication number: 20170205649
Abstract: Polyhydroxy sealing formulations for the production of electrophoretic displays, and portions thereof, for example, front plane laminates. When the disclosed polyhydroxy compounds are included in a sealing layer (or in a binder layer), the layer has improved wetting properties, allowing for more consistent application of the layer in a roll-to-roll production process. Additionally, the polyhydroxy compounds can migrate into the electrophoretic medium, where they improve the contrast ratio and reduce ghosting.
