  • Patent number: 5691712
Abstract: A multiple wellbore tool apparatus consisting of a plurality of microprocessor implemented wellbore tools is disposed in a fluid filled wellbore, and an input stimulus having a predetermined signature propagates down the wellbore fluid to all of the wellbore tools. The plurality of wellbore tools each include a microprocessor implemented controller board as well as an included wellbore tool and an acoustic receiver transmitter transducer connected to an output of the controller board. In addition, each of the microprocessors of each controller board include a memory which stores its own unique microcode programming. In response to the input stimulus, the controller board of a first wellbore tool determines that a correspondence exists between the signature of the stimulus and information stored therein and generates an output signal.

  • Patent number: 4995058
Abstract: In a wireline data transmission system for passing data between downhole and surface locations in a wellbore, a system for transmitting data at a frequency above the relatively low roll of frequency of a wireline permits higher data rates to be transmitted over the wireline than would be possible using standard digital data formats. The present system utilizes short duration pulses which are placed on the wireline in conformity to the transition edge between voltage levels in a typical digital data format, and thus transmits the digital data over the wireline in a manner which is not adversely affected by the phase shifting which normally occurs when bi-level voltage data formats are used for data transmission over a wireline.

  • Patent number: 4484468
Abstract: An improved rotational viscometer for testing drilling muds is disclosed. In a preferred and illustrated embodiment, a rotatable tubular sleeve is driven by a pulsed stepper motor. The drilling mud couples to a bob of cylindrical shape supported on a shaft. The sleeve is rotated or torqued, applying rotation to the shaft which is monitored by an optical encoder. The stepper motor is driven for a programmable sequence of specific intervals at specific speeds, and the mud coupled rotation at the encoder shaft is observed. The data obtained is scaled to provide an indication of viscosity and other measurements of the drilling mud indicated by an output LED display or other display type as desired. The mud is tested by a specified sequence of test procedures sanctioned by the American Petroleum Institute.
