  • Patent number: 4112789
Abstract: A machine for working band saw teeth, the bed of which machine mounts an abrasive wheel for grinding saw teeth and a clamping device for holding the saw on the side and back surfaces thereof, which clamping device mounts a mechanism for effecting reciprocating movement thereof relative to the abrasive wheel, said mechanism being kinematically connected with a machine driving mechanism and a saw pitch-feed mechanism, and at least two tooth tip supporting elements one of which is located before the abrasive wheel, as viewed in the direction of pitch feed, and the other is located thereafter and has at least two shaped surfaces arranged to make contact with the tips of the saw teeth, said other supporting element being mounted on the clamping device so as to be able to be moved relative thereto for the purpose of positioning the shaped surfaces so that the side surfaces of the saw tooth tips make contact therewith during pitch feed, whereby the setting of the tooth tips is performed.

  • Patent number: 4082014
Abstract: A wheelhead in a grinding machine for sharpening the teeth of band saws is disclosed. The base of the wheelhead has horizontal guideways, whereon a support carrying a grinding wheel is mounted, and a flat portion inclined at 45.degree. to the horizontal and serving as a guide for displacement of a dressing tool holder movably mounted on the support (9) on the side thereof opposite to the saw-teeth sharpening area. In addition, the wheelhead is provided with a device for holding the saw in the process of grinding off its weld. This device is mounted on the dressing tool holder in the operating area of the dressing tool. A saw-teeth sharpener furnished with the wheelhead being claimed provides for both sharpening the teeth of a band saw and grinding off its weld.

  • Patent number: 4064770
Abstract: A machine, wherein there are mounted on a base a sharpening mechanism with a grinding wheel, as well as a mechanism for feeding a saw to the grinding wheel and a mechanism for pitch feed of the saw relative to the grinding wheel which are in force transmitting connection therebetween. The mechanism for feeding the saw to the grinding wheel mounts a resilient clamping means for supporting the saw in a floating position and a means for braking the saw having a stop fastened thereto which cooperates, during the sharpening of edges of the adjacent saw teeth, with a cam fixed to the base so as to provide for release of the saw from braking. This machine allows the sharpening of saw teeth practically under any desired operating conditions, while improving the finish and accuracy of the manufacture.

  • Patent number: 4050333
Abstract: A method wherein the dynamic effect is applied to a zone on the edge of the saw tooth flank located at a certain distance from the tooth point which makes it possible to set the saw teeth after hardening their points to 60 HRc. The impact elements of the device for the realization of said method have surfaces acting on the edges of the saw tooth flanks, inclined to the plane of the saw cross section and having a convex curvilinear profile in cross section.

  • Patent number: 4019408
Abstract: A method employing a reciprocating feed of a band saw to an abrasive wheel and a pitch feed of the saw to the abrasive wheel. The saw is positioned so that during a part of the pitch feed the portion of the tooth back edge adjacent to the tooth tip comes into contact with one shaped surface of a supporting element, whereby the saw is retarded and at the same time the portion of the tooth edge is strengthened and planished. During the remaining part of the pitch feed the portion of the tooth front edge adjacent to the tooth tip makes contact with the other shaped surface of the supporting element, whereby the portion of the tooth front edge is strengthened and planished. In the machine for carrying this method into effect the supporting element located after the abrasive wheel, as viewed in the direction of the pitch feed, has two shaped surfaces disposed in relation to each other so as to form a wedge.
