  • Patent number: 10266960
Abstract: A method and a precursor for the large-scale production of upconverting nanocrystals derived from a NaYF4 host are provided. A rare earth based precursor is combined with a hydrophobic fluoride precursor, which is based upon a long-chain n-alkyl amine to form a reaction solution. The reaction solution is heated under an inert gas to temperatures above 300° C., whereby upconverting NaYF4-based nanocrystals are nucleated and grown.

  • Publication number: 20130140506
Abstract: A composition is provided comprising a host material and a luminescent dopant. The composition exhibits dual luminescent emission peaks, one each for the host material and the luminescent dopant. The intensity of the emission peaks vary in intensity as a result of the changing temperature of the composition. This quality enables the composition to be used for ratiometric optical thermometry, including exemplary applications, such as in situ temperature sensing.

  • Publication number: 20020018252
Abstract: The contact imaging system allows the contact area of an object impressed upon the surface of the contact imaging system to emit light in a pattern corresponding to the contact area making it possible to render an image of the contact area. The contact imaging system has a luminescence layer on top of a transparent electrode. When the object to be imaged contacts the luminescence layer and is held at ground potential relative to the transparent electrode, an electric field is created in the luminescence layer in a pattern corresponding to the contact pattern. The electric field causes the luminescence layer to emit a light image of the contact pattern. The luminescence layer and the transparent electrode are adjacent to a light sensing layer. The light sensing layer receives the light generated at the luminescence layer, and converts that light into a corresponding electric signal.

  • Patent number: 6326644
Abstract: A contact light emitting device embodying the invention includes a transparent electrode layer and a luminescence layer. The electrode layer and the luminescence layer are configured such that an electric field can be generated between the electrode layer and an object to be imaged. When the object to be imaged is brought adjacent the luminescence layer, the luminescence layer emits light, which is then converted into an electrical signal.

  • Patent number: 5912533
Abstract: The invention relates to an easily fabricated and highly luminous electroluminescence (EL) device, whose front transparent electrode is made by using transparent conductive powder and transparent conductive binder, and a method for making such an EL device. The method comprises the steps of: providing a substrate; forming a metal electrode layer on the substrate, wherein the metal electrode layer reflects light incident thereto; forming a dielectric layer comprising a mixture of dielectric powder and a binder on the metal electrode layer; forming a phosphor layer including phosphor powder and a binder on the dielectric layer; and forming a transparent electrode layer including transparent conductive powder and a transparent conductive binder on the phosphor layer using a spin coating or a screen printing process employed for liquid material.
