  • Patent number: 8607432
Abstract: A method of making a sterile connection comprises mating a first fitting having an aperture and a second fitting having an aperture, removing first and second strip out layers from between the end surfaces of sealed first and second resilient sealing members, and contacting the end surfaces of the resilient sealing members to provide fluid communication between the aperture of the first fitting and the aperture of the second fitting. A connector assembly comprises first and second fittings, a stem mounted for axial movement through the first fitting into the second fitting, and a deformable locking device which selectively prevents axial movement of the stem in the first fitting.

  • Patent number: 6880801
Abstract: A connector or a connector assembly comprises a fitting, a resilient sealing member, a plurality of protrusions, and a removable stripout layer. The fitting includes a socket. The protrusions extend from the fitting and are connectable to a mating connector. The resilient sealing layer, which is disposed in the socket of the fitting, includes a hollow body having opposite open ends and an internal passage extending between the open ends. The removable stripout layer is movable between a first position in which the stripout layer overlies an end of the resilient sealing member and a second position in which the stripout layer is removed from the end of the resilient sealing member.

  • Patent number: 6655655
Abstract: A connector assembly and a fluid system or device comprise a connector assembly which includes first and second fittings, each fitting having an aperture, and a stem disposed in the aperture of the first fitting. In various embodiments of the invention, the connector assembly may further comprise a socket cooperatively arranged with one of the first and second fittings, at least one resilient sealing member, a sealing layer joined to the socket or covering the resilient sealing member, and/or a deformable locking device. A method for making a connection includes mating a first fitting having an aperture and a second fitting having an aperture without fluid within the first and second fittings, establishing a fluid flowpath through the first and second fittings by advancing a stem having a head through the aperture of the first fitting into the aperture of the second fitting, and establishing fluid flow through the first and second fittings by opening a fluid blocking mechanism.
