  • Publication number: 20080304450
Abstract: There is disclosed a method of packet switched handover in a communications system having at least two modes of operation, the method comprising, at a terminal of the system, associating identifiers of each mode of operation, and responsive to a packet switched connection handover to a new mode, allocating the connection from an identifier of the existing mode to the associated identifier of the new mode.

  • Publication number: 20060291416
Abstract: A packet-switched handover from a first cell to a second cell in a cellular network is discussed. Packet-switched services are provided for a mobile station in the first cell based on a set of information relating to provision of packet-switched services and a protocol for handling provision of packet-switched services for mobile stations, said protocol being a protocol between a cell and a respective control network element. In a control network element relating to the first cell a first message is received, which indicates a request for a packet-switched handover for a mobile station. In response to said first message, a second message is sent to the second cell. This second message requests creation of a set of information relating to provision of packet-switched services for the mobile station in the second cell, and the second message belongs to said protocol for handling provision of packet-switched services for mobile stations.

  • Publication number: 20060281459
Abstract: In case of both circuit-switched and a packet-switched connection handover from a source (200) to a target (510) radio access network or base station subsystem a new target ID indication message (415.1; 415.2) is sent to a core network node (422) either from a core network element (215) or from the target radio access network or base station subsystem, depending on whether there is an interface (Gs) between the core network element and the core network node. In one embodiment, in contrast to the prior art, the new target ID indication message is mandated to only identify one target base station or target radio access network.

  • Publication number: 20060256749
Abstract: The present invention relates to identifying resources allocated in a cellular network for a mobile station for packet-switched services. A first identifier is used for identifying a mobile station, and a second identifier is used for identifying resources allocated for packet-switched services for the mobile station. When a mobile station is entering or has entered a second cell from a first cell, a value of a first type for the second identifier is determined. The first type of the second identifier is for use in both the first cell and the second cell for transmitting packet-switched data between the cellular network and the mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20060246906
Abstract: A method for the handover of dedicated as well as shared resources for a communication device. The communication device simultaneously uses circuit switched and packet switched bearer services of a communication network according to a certain connection mode. The method comprises performing a handover procedure, wherein a change from old resources used by the communication device to new resources to be used by the communication device is effected simultaneously for dedicated as well as shared resources.

  • Publication number: 20060239229
Abstract: The problem of synchronization of the handover of the CS and PS resources to the same target cell during DTM handover is solved without affecting the performance of the CS handover. The mechanism of synchronizing the handover of the PS and CS resources is supported by the following functions: (1) resource indications on the CS and PS handover signalling to indicate to target cell network nodes that the CS and PS handover is ongoing at the same time for the same MS; (2) allocated resources indications on the CS and PS handover signalling to indicate to the source cell nodes that there are resources available in the target cell for CS and PS resources; (3) management of the synchronization of the CS and PS handover in the source and target cell.

  • Publication number: 20060234709
Abstract: Before execution of a routing area update (RAU) procedure associated with a handover of a mobile station (40) from a source cell to a target cell in a mobile telecommunication system, a handover required message (14) is sent to a core network (CN) from a source base station (16) in the source cell having a mobile station identifier (IMSI), an identifier of at least one target cell routing area code (RAC) and a temporary logical link identity (TLLI). In response thereto, a handover command message (32) is sent to the source base station from the core network having a packet-temporary mobile subscriber identity (P-TMSI) for transfer to the mobile station in ciphered form over a radio interface between the source base station and the mobile station so that the mobile station is able to send packet-switched (PS) data on an uplink before the RAU procedure is executed.

  • Patent number: 6973102
Abstract: A method and a computer program for reducing jitter in IP packet transmission in a Diffserv network having ingress and egress Border Routers and using premium service, expedited forwarding and source route option, recognize incoming packets which have firm jitter requirements. The program verifies if a recognized packet has an entry in the forwarding cache for its IP destination address. If affirmative, the identified packet is sent to the next hop. If not, the program checks to see if a route table entry exists for the specified destination address. If affirmative, the route table entry is stored in the forwarding cache, and the packet is sent on its way. Otherwise, the program uses special filters to extract and select the shortest and fastest path to an egress border router to match the destination address; a list of selected router addresses is inserted as part of a source route option.

  • Publication number: 20020087699
Abstract: A method and network subsystem for providing on demand end to end Quality of Service (QoS) in a dynamic manner, use a combination of Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP), load control protocol (and its successors) and Bandwidth Brokers (BBs) which communicate using a predetermined protocol. The predetermined protocol may be one of Common Open Policy Service Protocol (COPS) and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) for direct communication by the BBs. The network subsystem might also include differentiated services architecture (Diffserv) which might comprise a Diffserv domain including Border Routers (BRs) and Core Routers (CRs). The BBs may obtain resource availability information by communicating only with the BRs to the exclusion of CRs. The BBs may optionally have the capability of using an RSVP aggregation protocol and may have the ability to store and manage RSVP aggregation status.
