    Abstract: A stepper drive for an ink doctor roller of a rotary printing machine is power supplied by incremental voltages of uniform magnitude derived from the rotary speed of the machine. The magnitude of an ink metering step of the doctor roller is selected in an evaluation unit which determines the number of incremental voltages supplied to the stepper drive. At the same time, the rate of the selected metering steps is selected in dependency on the rotary speed of the machine by a rate selection means.

    Abstract: An ink metering method for an inking mechanism of a rotary printing machine having an ink fountain, a doctor roller, a separate electric motor for driving the doctor roller and a low speed of rotation relative to the printing machine, includes the selection of a rate at which the electric motor imparts to the doctor roller discrete angular motions; and selecting by a second selector switch the magnitude of the angular motions. A circuit arrangement for carrying out the method includes a time selection unit which delivers at its output a series of pulses at a desired rate; an increment evaluation unit which receives at its input a number of pulses corresponding to the magnitude of the angular motion performed by the electric motor and compares the momentary number with a preset desired number corresponding to a desired magnitude of the angle of rotation.

    Abstract: A central timing device for controlling a plurality of working functions of a printing machine, includes a reference pulse generator, assembled to encoder discs connected to a cycle shaft of the printing machine to produce a sequence of angular increment pulses and at least one single synchronizing pulse. The reference pulse generator is connected to a pulse processing circuit which includes a first address coding device for producing binary coded addresses pertaining to angles of rotation of the machine. A second address coding device is coupled to the encoder for angular increments via a timing circuit including an AND-gate and a monostable multivibrator to produce binary coded addresses pertaining to the angle of rotation/rotary speed of the printing machine. The outputs of the first and second address generating devices are connected to addressing inputs of separate PROMs preprogrammed with desired timing signals.

    Abstract: A timing device for controlling the operation of printing machines comprises: an encoder disc for generating pulses correspnding to angular increments during one rotation of the machine; at least one encoder disc for generating a singular synchronizing or reference signal; address generating means including a counter reset by the singular synchronizing pulse and counting the angular increments to continuously produce a bindary coded address at its outputs; a second counter coupled to the encoder of angular increments via an AND-gate controlled by a monostable multivibrator to produce at its outputs a binary coded address corresponding to the rotary speed of the printing machine. The addresses from respective counters are fed via corresponding data buses to address inputs of a programmable read only memory. From the outputs of the PROM timing output signals are read out as a function of the angular position of the machine or the function of the angular position and of the rotary speed of the machine.

    Abstract: A central timing device for a printing machine includes an address generator in the form of a series of encoder disks arranged on a common shaft connected to the machine. The disks are provided with fixed coding indicative of angular increments relative to a reference point. The resulting binary words are applied as angular position addresses to addressing inputs of a programmable read only memory. Another device for generating addresses pertaining to momentary rotary speeds of the machine is selectively connectable to the addressing inputs of the PROM to read out at the output of the latter timing signals modified according to the rotary speeds.

    Abstract: A device for generating timing pulses for a rotary printing machine includes generators for generating synchronizing pulses and a pulse sequence corresponding to increments of angle of rotation of the machine. A pulse processing circuit includes address counters connected to the pulse generating means and being preset by an address presetting device. The output of the one address counter is connected to a PROM storing predetermined sequences of timing pulses. In order to provide for shifting of the stored timing pulse sequences in a negative direction, an inverting member is connected in the data bus between the rotary speed counter and the address presetting device of the one address counter. The inverting member can include either negators or storing means programmed with complementary values.

    Abstract: A control system for adjusting functional elements of consecutive printing units of a multi-color, sheet-fed, rotary printing machine during its changeover from a first or face printing mode of operation to the first and second or back-up printing mode of operation. The system includes a first control circuit fed with data signals and clock pulse signals for controlling functional elements of a first printing unit, and a second control circuit for controlling functional elements of the subsequent printing unit. An auxiliary control circuit is arranged between the two control circuits and cooperates with a timing pulse adjuster which in turn is controlled by timing pulses from a timing pulse generator, from a sheet-control device and from a machine stop detecting device.
