  • Publication number: 20100042683
Abstract: A data logging system that utilizes a schedule of data transfer periods for transferring data from devices to a server. A communication of an actual data transfer size of stored data in a first device of the devices is obtained by the server from the first device. A corresponding future data transfer size of the stored data is estimated by the server, based on a historic data transfer size for data previously transferred from the first device to the server. The schedule is currently based on the historic data transfer size for the first device. The server updates the schedule if the server has determined that a difference exists between the actual data transfer size and the corresponding estimated future data transfer size. A transmission from the first device of the data actually stored in the first device is received by the server in accordance with the schedule.

  • Patent number: 7522923
Abstract: Methods, systems and computer program products are provided for transferring log data to a server over a wireless network from a plurality of remote devices. The server is configured to receive data from the plurality of remote devices. A transfer period is scheduled for transferring log data from a remote device to the server taking into account a wireless network signal strength of the remote device for the scheduled transfer period. The scheduled transfer period does not overlap a time when an estimated wireless network strength is too low to transfer the log data.

  • Publication number: 20090063174
Abstract: A system and method for optimizing wireless network coverage. A system and method in accordance with the present invention for optimizing a wireless network are disclosed. In one embodiment, the system includes a telematics device that collects location, time, and speed information from a Global Positioning System module. The location, time, and speed information is used as insurance journey data. The telematics device also collects network quality data from a wireless network module (e.g. Global System for Mobile Communications). The telematics device sends the insurance journey data and network quality data to a telematics server to be forwarded to an insurance company server and a network operator server.
