  • Publication number: 20240040342
Abstract: A system and method are described that are carried out by a mobility management component for providing enhanced short message service (SMS) memory handling in the absence of a user equipment (UE) signaling capability to indicate that an SMS memory is available after the UE issues a signal indicating an SMS memory unavailable error condition to the mobility management component. The method includes receiving the signal indicating an SMS memory unavailable error condition from the UE. In accordance with receiving the signal, an SMS memory error condition timer is set for the UE and issues an SMS memory failure message to temporarily cause suspension of sending SMS messages, via a short message service center (SMSC), to the UE. In response to expiration of a time period after the setting the SMS memory error condition timer, the mobility management component issues an SMS memory available message to resume SMS message delivery to the UE.

  • Patent number: 10805783
Abstract: A method and cell broadcast center (CBC) system are described for issuing an emergency alert message containing at least one hyperlink corresponding to content stored on a web server. The operations performed by the CBC include receiving an emergency alert message. The emergency alert message includes a hyperlink to web content. The CBC processes the emergency alert message by: issuing a request to a web server for a content corresponding to the hyperlink, and issuing an emergency broadcast request to carrier networks. The emergency broadcast request includes both: the emergency alert message, and the content corresponding to the hyperlink. The issuing the emergency broadcast request, causes delivery of the content corresponding to the hyperlink to a browser cache on a user equipment without user selection of the hyperlink on the user equipment.

  • Patent number: 9877178
Abstract: A method and system for providing a Commercial Mobile Alert System paging notification, such as a text based emergency alert message, to a fixed wireless terminal system is provided. The fixed wireless terminal provides an interface between cellular wireless networks and a residential phone system comprising the fixed wireless network and one or more receivers configured to operate over a traditional Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS). The fixed wireless terminal receives the text based alert message and converts the alert message into an audio file that can be provided to the one or more residential phone receivers over the POTS network.

  • Patent number: 8731513
Abstract: A mobile wireless system and method are described for distributing emergency alert messages to mobile wireless devices in multiple languages. The emergency alert system receives an alert message including a geographic area identification, and a text alert. The emergency alert system renders one or more translations of the text alert from the text alert. The one or more translated versions of the text alert are provided in particular foreign languages based upon designated foreign languages corresponding to the geographic area identification. The emergency alert system transmits the text alert and one or more translated text alerts commercial mobile wireless service provider networks for broadcasting the text alert and the translated text alert(s) via mobile wireless transmitters having a coverage area falling within a region corresponding to the geographic area identification.

  • Patent number: 8290473
Abstract: Methods and corresponding systems in a mobile device for remotely modifying data stored in the mobile device include receiving a message in the mobile device. The message can be a short message service (SMS) message. The message is compared to a secret message, wherein the secret message is a hash value output by a hash function, wherein inputs to the hash function include a text string and a secret text string. The text string can be an e-mail address, and the secret text string can be a password of the mobile device. In response to the message matching the secret message, data stored in memory in the mobile device is modified to prevent unauthorized access. A secret message cancellation can be received in the mobile device to cancel a scheduled memory modification. Memory modification can include erasing data, replacing data, or encrypting data.

  • Patent number: 8019367
Abstract: A method and system allow a mobile subscriber to block reception of mobile terminated (MT) Short Message System (SMS) messages yet still have the ability to send outgoing mobile originated SMS messages. The method and system include determining whether a MT SMS feature setting is enabled or disabled at an SMS layer of a protocol stack of the mobile device and transmitting a mobile device registration message to a mobile network service center as SMS capable or incapable, depending on the MT SMS feature setting. The mobile device may be registered as SMS incapable by setting certain fields within information elements of registration messages. If a MT SMS message is received and the MT SMS feature setting is disabled, then the SMS layer may increment a blocked message counter and transmit a failure message to the service center. The service center may be included in a base station of the mobile network.
