Patent number: 11962412Abstract: A method for preserving a frame check sequence (FCS) of a data frame during backscatter communication is provided. The method comprises: receiving a transmitted signal including a transmitted data frame, wherein the transmitted data frame includes a first data sequence and the FCS; determining a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) preservation sequence based on a backscattering tag data sequence, a bit-length of the backscattering tag data sequence, and a given CRC algorithm; and backscattering the transmitted signal to form a backscattered signal including a backscattered data frame, wherein the backscattered data frame includes a second data sequence and the FCS. The second data sequence includes a transmitted data sequence, an encoded tag data sequence and the CRC preservation sequence. The CRC preservation sequence preserves the FCS of the transmitted data frame in the backscattered data frame. The FCS is usable to detect communication errors in the backscattered data frame.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2023Date of Patent: April 16, 2024Assignee: HaiLa Technologies Inc.Inventors: Vytas Kezys, Juan Miguel David Becerra, Matheus Lemes Ferronato

Patent number: 8831509Abstract: A communications system may include a holder, a first near-field communication (NFC) device carried by the holder, and a mobile device. The mobile device may include a housing configured to be removably positioned within the holder, a second NFC device carried by the housing and configured to communicate with the first NFC device via NFC communications, and a controller carried by the housing and coupled to the second NFC device. The controller may be configured to operate the second NFC device to scan for the first NFC device in a first mode when the housing is removed from the holder, and operate the second NFC device in a second mode based upon communication with the first NFC device when the housing is positioned within the holder, where the second mode has a lower power consumption level associated therewith than the first mode.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2011Date of Patent: September 9, 2014Assignee: BlackBerry LimitedInventors: Vahid Moosavi, Scott Douglas Rose, Vytas Kezys

Publication number: 20030048223Abstract: An adaptive parasitic array antenna system having properties of directive gain, self-pointing and interference rejection is provided including an adaptive parasitic array antenna comprising at least one active element and one or more parasitic elements coupled to controlled impedances (CI). The system further comprises a transceiver, a content-based optimization criterion computation module (CBOCCM), and a control variable optimizer (CVO). The CBOCCM receives a signal wavefonn from the active element through the transceiver, and computes an optimization criterion (OC) based on the content of the received signal. The optimization criterion is coupled to the CVO, which adaptively computes one or more control variables (CV), which are coupled to the controlled impedances CI in order to adjust the beampattern created by the adaptive parasitic array antenna.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 7, 2002Publication date: March 13, 2003Inventor: Vytas Kezys
