  • Patent number: 6057646
Abstract: The invention is a light level monitoring and ATM control system which is designed for operation at a typical automated teller machine (ATM). The system is used to ensure that a user area associated with the ATM is maintained at a minimum light level. If the user area drops below a predetermined minimum, the preferred system disables the ATM and illuminates a warning sign to deter bank customers from approaching the area. The system does not directly measure the light level in the user area, but rather uniquely, indirectly determines the light level in the user area by measuring the output of a light fixture that illuminates the user area at a point remote to the user area and by calibrating the remote measurement relative to a measured value and a minimum value in the user area. The system, by indirectly determining the light level in the user area, does not suffer from apparent changes in light level in the user area due to the presence or absence of a customer or the color of a customer's clothing.

  • Patent number: 4470758
Abstract: A microprocessor-based controller for regulating the operation of a fluid pump motor is disclosed, wherein the controller includes a protection circuit which prevents fluid over- or under-delivery conditions from occurring by shutting down the pump motor whenever the actual speed of the pump motor differs from a desired pump motor speed by more than a predetermined amount. A simulation means interconnected with the protection circuit simulates fluid over- or under-delivery conditions to test the accuracy of protection circuit operation.

  • Patent number: 4444546
Abstract: An improved occulsion detection apparatus and method for use in a pumping apparatus wherein a motor control sequencer provides signals adapted to rotate the shaft of a motor and a pump mechanism through a pumping cycle. The motor is advantageouly initially operated at a first higher torque to insure proper starting of the pumping cycle and is subsequently operated at a second lower torque through the remainder of the pumping cycle, the motor stalling if an occlusion within a fluid delivery system causes the back pressure within the delivery system to exceed the torque capabilities of the motor. An occulsion detector times the pumping cycle and if the cycle exceeds a first predetermined time period, an occulsion alarm is generated. The occlusion detector may further cause the motor control sequencer to increase motor torque to attempt to complete the pumping cycle or may de-energize the motor after a second predetermined period to prevent damage to the pumping apparatus.
