  • Patent number: 5620207
Abstract: A ring binder cover (4) is composed of a pair of themoplastic sheets (20, 22) superimposed in edge-to-edge relation with a stiffener insert panel (23) disposed therebetween. The insert panel bears two parallel grooves (25, 27) which divide the insert into a spine zone (30) and two cover zones (24, 26). The material of the insert lying at the bottom of the grooves forms a pair of flexible strips (32, 34) which, combined with the adjacent portions of the cover sheets, form hinges between the spine and each cover. The peripheral edge portions (40) of the two thermoplastic sheets are sealed together and provide a sealed envelope for the stiffener insert which defines semi-rigid back and front cover panels of the binder, hingedly connected to a rigid spine. The insert can be provided with insert notches (370, 470, 570) at each end of each flexible strip to reduce outward protuberance of the peripheral edge at the hinge ends.

  • Patent number: 5163768
Abstract: A combined binder and suspended file assembly has an elongated spine defining an elongated triangular channel with two substantially planar elongated members integrally formed in a hinged relationship to the edges of the channel. The binder and file assembly further includes pins and mating securing recesses wherein the pins are integrally formed on one of the elongated planar members, and the recesses are formed in the opposite planar member, such that the pins are inserted through holes in the sheets of paper to bind the paper. The binder and file assembly is suspended from a two rail suspension filing system by two retractable hooks, each of the hooks slidably engaged to one of the ends of the spine member and further wherein the hooks and spine member include interfitting recesses and ridges so as to enable the hooks to lock in a retracted position and in an extended position.

  • Patent number: 5028159
Abstract: An economical lightweight looseleaf binder combines the functionality of a standard ring binder with easy-to-use characteristics of report covers. The cover is folded to define front and back panels as well as a spine portion, and additionally includes a crease at the longitudinal center line of the two ring assemblies which are both secured to the back panel. The ring assemblies include a series of hooks having complementary notched profiles which firmly engage one another when closed, yet may be easily disengaged through flexure of the cover. In one construction, the binder comprises a pressboard cover to which is attached a pair of plastic ring assemblies. The hooks are configured to permit filler sheets to lie flat and to facilitate transfer of sheets from one side to the other.

  • Patent number: 4576497
Abstract: Easel type ring binder includes a generally U-shaped support member with parallel leg portions slidably fitted into tubular sheaths disposed along the opposite side edges of the ring mechanism of the binder. Each leg of the support member is hinged at corresponding points intermediate its opposite ends for pivotable movement of the outer end of the support member to a binder support position in which the outer portion of the support member is disposed at an acute interior angle relative to the inner portion thereof. The sheaths are slotted to provide stops and the legs include protections engageable with the stops to limit the withdrawal of the legs from within said sheaths.

  • Patent number: 4426007
Abstract: A filing unit for storage and retrieval of magnetic recording disks is disclosed. The unit includes a plurality of pockets or storage panels which can be removably stored in a modular holder and the holder itself can be combined with various other filing components, such as a storage binder having front and rear covers or a desk-top filing stand. In the preferred embodiment, the pocket is carried by a file bar affixed along one edge thereof. The holder includes a plurality of parallel channels each adapted to pivotally receive the file bar of a storage panel. Each channel includes retaining lugs which straddle the channel and are flexible to permit snap-insertion and removal of the bar from the holder.
