  • Patent number: 6533250
Abstract: An energy dissipating system is mounted on the side surface of an elongated concrete median or roadway barrier and includes a longitudinally extending flexible sheet of low friction plastics material having upper and lower edge portions secured to the barrier and with an intermediate portion of the sheet defining a longitudinally extending cavity with the side surface. An elongated energy dissipating member extends horizontally within the cavity, and in one form, comprises a set of resilient cylindrical tubes of extruded plastics material with a smaller tube enclosed within a larger outer tube. In another form, the energy dissipating member includes helically extending compression plastic spring coils disposed between the resilient inner and outer tubes.

  • Patent number: 6276667
Abstract: An energy dissipating system is mounted on the side surface of an elongated concrete median or roadway barrier and includes a longitudinally extending flexible sheet of low friction plastics material having upper and lower edge portions secured to the side surface of the barrier and while defining a longitudinally extending cavity therebetween. An elongated energy dissipating member extends horizontally within the cavity, and in one form, comprises a set of resilient cylindrical tubes of extruded plastics material with a smaller tube enclosed within a larger outer tube.

  • Patent number: 5181695
Abstract: A series of horizontally spaced vertical blades each has a uniform thickness and opposite vertical edge portions projecting in opposite directions, and a lower end portion of each blade is locked within a slot of a corresponding cylindrical base member by a pair of retractable cross pins. The base members are mounted on interlocking joints of a series of base rail sections which precisely space the blades and mount on the top surface of a concrete highway median barrier. Bolts extend downwardly through the base members into anchors expanded within the barriers and secure each base member and the underlying rail sections of the barrier. Each blade and corresponding base member are rotatably positionable on the underlying rail sections which have upward projections for locating the base member and blade at a selected predetermined angle. The upper end portions of the blades may be releasably connected by a horizontal cable for use in high wind areas.

  • Patent number: 4522530
Abstract: An elongated flexible tube of resilient plastics material includes an upper end portion and a lower end portion and is capable of being repetitively bent through an angle of ninety degrees and of returning to an upright straight position with the aid of a flexible erecting member within the tube. The upper end portion may be thermally flattened for receiving a panel of reflective material or the reflective material may wrap around the tube. In one embodiment, the lower end portion of the tube projects into a hole within the ground and carries outwardly projecting spring fingers which positively lock into the ground. In another embodiment, a molded plastic base member releasably retains the lower end portion of the tube and is adapted to be cemented to a roadway surface. Also disclosed is a tool for quickly forming a series of holes within the ground to receive the lower end portions of the tubes.

  • Patent number: 4343567
Abstract: A metal anchor tube is driven into the ground or blacktop and defines a cavity which receives the lower end portion of an elongated cylindrical flexible marking tube extruded from a resilient plastics material. The upper end portion of the marking tube supports a light reflecting member which may be in the form of a reflective sheet located within the marking tube and visible through an opening or window within the tube. In one embodiment, the lower end portion of the marking tube is releasably coupled to the anchor tube by an internal wedge plug which compresses the marking tube against the anchor tube and is inserted and removed by means of a tool. In another embodiment, the releasable coupling is formed by an anchor tube having tabs which project inwardly into corresponding holes within the flexible marking tube.
