  • Publication number: 20150063759
Abstract: A fiber optic assembly includes a connector and a cover received over an end face of the connector. The connector includes a ferrule through which an optical fiber extends to the end face of the connector. An end of the optical fiber is polished proximate to the end face. The cover the cover includes a rigid end cap and a form-fitting material within the end cap overlaying the polished end of the optical fiber. The cover is configured to limit access of particulates to the end face of the connector and draw loose particulates of dust and debris from the end face of the connector upon removal from the connector.

  • Publication number: 20140241676
Abstract: Furcating fiber optic cables without direct coupling of optical fibers to strength members are disclosed. Related methods and assemblies are also disclosed. The furcation includes shrink tube(s) securing optical fiber(s) to their fiber sub-unit jacket(s). The shrink tube(s) is secured inside a cable jacket of the fiber optic cable to secure fiber sub-unit(s) and their optical fiber(s) as part of the furcation. The strength member(s) of the fiber optic cable is also secured to the cable jacket as part of the furcation. The shrink tube(s) prevents direct coupling of the optical fiber(s) to the strength member(s) in the furcation. By not directly coupling the optical fiber(s) to the strength member(s), cable strain can be directed to the cable jacket and the fiber sub-unit jacket(s). The shrink tube(s) can also prevent or reduce micro-bubbles from forming around the optical fiber(s) in the furcation which may cause attenuation from optical fiber micro-bending.

  • Patent number: 8630523
Abstract: Methods of preparing strength member pulling members in fiber optic cable furcations and related components, assemblies, and fiber optic cables are disclosed. To allow fiber optic cables to be pulled without damaging optical fiber(s) disposed therein, a strength member pulling loop is formed from a strength member disposed inside the fiber optic cable. A pulling cord can be disposed in the strength member pulling loop to pull the fiber optic cable. The pulling load applied to the pulling cord is translated to the strength member pulling loop, which is translated to the strength member disposed inside the fiber optic cable. In this manner, when the fiber optic cable is pulled, the pulling load is translated to the strength member disposed inside the fiber optic cable to prevent or avoid damaging the optical fiber(s) disposed inside the fiber optic cable.

  • Publication number: 20130308909
Abstract: A fiber optic assembly includes a connector and a cover bonded to an end face of the connector. The connector includes a ferrule, where an optical fiber extends through the ferrule and to the end face of the connector. An end of the optical fiber is polished proximate to the end face. The cover is bonded directly to the end face of the connector, and overlays the polished end of the optical fiber such that the cover protects the optical fiber, limits access of dust to the end face of the connector, and draws loose particulates from the end face upon removal of the cover.

  • Patent number: 8079372
Abstract: A discreet packing system for containing and compacting finely chopped tobacco product having a shallow cylindrical body and a lid detachably secured thereto. A flexible wall is secured at a fixed end to the interior surface of the body. The flexible inner wall generally coextends the interior surface of the body and thereby defines a cylindrical volume in which the tobacco is contained. The flexible wall may be selectively locked in place relative to the outer wall of the body. In one embodiment of the present invention, a bottom is slidably connected to a cylindrical outer wall of the body. A distal end of the flexible wall is attached to the bottom and is urged via rotation of the bottom relative to the outer wall. Other embodiments are provided wherein the flexible wall extends through the body and is urged via a grip or slider.

  • Patent number: 7624126
Abstract: A server provides Web responses that can include content from data tables in a database. The server maintains a cache (e.g., in system memory) that can store content (including content from data tables) so as to increase the efficiency of subsequently providing the same content to satisfy client Web requests. The server monitors data tables for changes and, when a change in a particular data table occurs, invalidates cached entries that depend on a particular data table. Further, in response to a client Web request for a Web response, the server assigns a database cache dependency to at least a portion of a constructed Web response (e.g., to content retrieved from a data table) based on commands executed during construction of the Web response. The at least a portion of the constructed Web response is subsequently cached in a cache location at the server.

  • Patent number: 7398304
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer products for deriving custom cache dependencies are explained. A framework that includes an extensible cache dependency base class that can be used to derive custom cache dependency classes for invalidating cache entries on some custom condition is disclosed. In some embodiments, a Web page server includes a cache and the framework including the extensible cache dependency base. Methods are disclosed for causing a cache entry to be dependent on a customized cache dependency and for invalidating cache entries based on customized cache dependencies. For example, cache entries can depend on and be purged based on dependencies on database tables and Web services.

  • Publication number: 20080026747
Abstract: A radio communications network is provided in a neighborhood of local units, and has a gateway at each local unit and a neighborhood network manager communicating data with each gateway over an upper layer of the network. Each local unit has equipment that communicates data with the gateway thereof over a lower layer of the network. Each gateway includes a radio and operates the radio according to a protocol that defines a plurality of radio channels. The gateway employs a first one of the plurality of radio channels as an upper layer channel to communicate data in the upper layer of the network, and also employs a second one of the plurality of radio channels different from the first one as a lower layer channel to communicate data in the lower layer of the network.
