  • Publication number: 20070178485
Abstract: This invention relates to embodiment to a molecular beacon, methods and kits for the detection of expression of p21(Waf1/Cip1), in response to chemotherapy. Specifically, the introduction of a phosphorothioate-modified p21-beacon by transfection in human tumor cells yields increased signal in a dose dependent manner.
    Type: Application
    Filed: September 1, 2006
    Publication date: August 2, 2007
    Inventors: Wafik El-Deiry, Rishita Shah
  • Patent number: 5871968
Abstract: The striking compartmentalization of p21.sup.WAF1 expression found in normal tissues is completely abrogated in neoplastic tissues. Methods are provided for using p21.sup.WAF1 expression as a tool to assess neoplasia and to discover new drugs. A truncated p21.sup.WAF1 protein is more active than full-length p21.sup.WAF1 protein in inhibiting tumor cell growth.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 5, 1997
Date of Patent: February 16, 1999
    Assignee: The Johns Hopkins University
Inventors: Kenneth W. Kinzler, Wafik El-Deiry, Bert Vogelstein
