  • Patent number: 10019771
Abstract: In an example of a method for enabling after-hours vehicle pick up, a server recognizes that a service payment request is outstanding for a serviced vehicle. In response to the recognizing, the server transmits an ignition block command to the serviced vehicle. The ignition block command triggers a powertrain control module of the serviced vehicle to enter a disengaged state that electrically prohibits the powertrain control module from providing tractive power to a vehicle drive wheel. At the server, a notification of a payment acceptance is received from an infotainment unit of the serviced vehicle or a mobile communications device associated with the serviced vehicle. In response to receiving the notification, the server transmits an ignition enabling command triggering the powertrain control module to enter an engaged state that electrically enables the powertrain control module to provide tractive power to the vehicle drive wheel.

  • Publication number: 20180107473
Abstract: A software update system for a vehicle is disclosed, as well as a method of determining whether to install a software update at an electronic control unit (ECU) in the vehicle. The method includes the steps of: receiving at the ECU a first signal from a first vehicle system module (VSM) in the vehicle; receiving at the ECU a second signal from a second VSM in the vehicle, wherein the first and second signals each provide an indication that the vehicle is in a stationary state; based on the first and second signals, assessing at the ECU that the vehicle is in the stationary state, wherein the assessment is in accordance with a first predetermined confidence level; and in response to the assessment, authorizing at the ECU an installation of the software update on ECU memory.

  • Patent number: 9096188
Abstract: An aftermarket device is disclosed herein. In an embodiment, the aftermarket device includes, but is not limited to, a housing that is configured to be mounted to an internal surface of a vehicle. The aftermarket device further includes, but is not limited to a processor that is mounted within the housing. The aftermarket device still further includes, but is not limited to, a mounting sensor that is associated with the housing and that is communicatively coupled with the processor. The mounting sensor is configured to detect a mounting status of the housing and to provide a signal to the processor. The signal contains information indicative of the mounting status of the housing. The processor is configured to determine that the housing is improperly mounted to the internal surface of the vehicle based on the mounting status.

  • Publication number: 20150095156
Abstract: At a server, a notification that a subscriber vehicle has an appointment with a dealership is received. A geo-fence is set up around the dealership. At the server, it is recognized that the subscriber vehicle has entered the geo-fence. Subscriber vehicle identifying data is received at the server, and in-vehicle infotainment capabilities of the subscriber vehicle are identified at the server by interrogation of a database in connection with the server. From the server, a message is transmitted to the subscriber vehicle that is tailored to the in-vehicle infotainment capabilities.
