  • Patent number: 5961149
Abstract: The covers and flaps of the cover construction of the book and toy assembly are opened and laid flat. Pop-up and fixed structures on the opened cover construction form a village, and a path or track passes through and by the village. The path passes over the front and rear covers, the spine therebetween, and the front and rear flaps folded out from the respective covers. A toy train stored in a storage compartment mounted on the front cover can be removed therefrom by the user, wound up, placed on the track and allowed to run around the track, and thereby through the village. Pressing a button on the inside of the book spine causes a noise making device to emit a train whistle noise to add realism and enjoyment to the train playing experience. Indicia and pictures on the flaps and readable with the covers open and the flaps closed tell a story about the train traveling through the village.

  • Patent number: 5871237
Abstract: An enhanced children's book includes a plurality of pages bound between covers along a spine. At least one of the pages includes a recto sheet, a verso sheet, and an inner member. The recto and verso sheets are adhered together to define an inner space in which the inner member is slidably received. The recto and verso sheets are cut to define a bound portion and a movable portion of the page. The inner member is rotatably attached to the bound portion of the page, and the movable portion is rotatably attached to the inner member. The movable portion is rotatable between a normal position in which the page is normally configured and an extended position in which a portion of the inner member is exposed. The inner member is rotatable between a normal position in which a minimal portion of the inner member is exposed and an extended position in which a maximal portion of the inner member is exposed.

  • Patent number: 5833509
Abstract: A children's book joined with a bendable figurine to form a figurine book assembly which functions not only as a book but also as an object for play so that the child's interest is sustained in the book. The figurine is a three dimensional character or object which is joined to the book and can be shaped to appear as a character or object in the story of the book. The book can be attached to the figurine so that the figurine extends out beyond the four corners of the book and is thereby at least partially visible from a front of the book. The figurine can have an upper portion that extends over the top of the book and is made of a bendable material so that it can be bent down by the child user over the front cover of the book, thereby holding the book closed. When the child wishes to open the book, the child bends the upper portion up and out of the way of the front cover. The upper portion can be configured as an upper limb like an arm.

  • Patent number: 5788286
Abstract: A children's book is enhanced with hologram features to increase the level of a child's interest in the book. The hologram children's book includes a cover portion having a front cover, a back cover, and a spine formed therebetween. A plurality of leaves are bound to the cover portion. Each of the leaves includes a recto sheet and a verso sheet. A plurality of windows are formed in the recto and verso sheets of the leaves. A plurality of hologram sheets are respectively disposed adjacent to the windows, between the recto and verso sheets. Each window and corresponding hologram sheet defines a hologram feature. The windows and hologram sheets may be configured so that one side of the hologram sheet is visible through a window formed in a recto sheet of a leaf, while the other side of the hologram sheet is visible through a window formed in the verso sheet of the same leaf. The children's book may also have a hologram feature formed in the cover portion.

  • Patent number: 5746637
Abstract: A book particularly suitable and attractive to young children. Relatively stiff front and rear covers open and shut along a side spine to expose and cover a plurality of pages in a typical book fashion. The rear cover is formed of two cardboard or other relatively stiff layers or sheets. A plush toy configured to resemble an upper portion of a figure has a thin base sandwiched between the cardboard layers and adhered therein. Thereby the toy extends above the top edge of the rear cover. On the back of the rear cover is a design aligned and continuous with the toy and depicting a lower portion of the figure. The story written on the pages is about the figure and the figure is preferably illustrated on the front cover. For example, the figure can be a bear, the story can be "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," the figure upper portion can include the bear's head, chest and outstretched front legs (arms), and the rear cover design can be the bottom half of the bear.
