  • Patent number: 5366651
Abstract: Antifreeze concentrate is disclosed having water soluble liquid alcohol freezing point depressant and corrosion inhibitor comprising carboxylic acids or their salts and a triazole compound, wherein the concentrate contains: (1) C.sub.5 -C.sub.16 aliphatic monobasic acid or the alkali metal, ammonium or amine salt thereof; (2) hydrocarbyl triazole; and (3) imidazole.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 26, 1993
Date of Patent: November 22, 1994
    Assignee: Texaco Services (Europe) Ltd.
Inventors: Jean-Pierre Maes, Walter A. van Neste
  • Patent number: 4851145
Abstract: A corrosion inhibitor for use in aqueous and liquid alcohol compositions is described comprising the combination of:(a) an alkylbenzoic acid or the alkali metal, ammonium, or amine salt thereof, said acid having the general formula ##STR1## where R is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl radical; (b) a C.sub.8 -C.sub.12 aliphatic monobasic acid or the alkali metal, ammonium, or amine salt thereof; and(c) a hydrocarbyl triazole.Aqueous compositions containing the above-described corrosion inhibitor as well as antifreeze/coolant concentrate and aqueous antifreeze/coolant compositions containing said corrosion inhibitor are also described. The corrosion-inhibitor of the instant invention gives synergistic corrosion protection to metal surfaces as compared with compositions containing either the alkylbenzoic or aliphatic monobasic acid component alone.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 30, 1986
Date of Patent: July 25, 1989
    Assignee: S.A. Texaco Petroleum NV
Inventors: Walter A. Van Neste, Jean P. Maes, Rita Vereecken
  • Patent number: 4759864
Abstract: A corrosion-inhibited antifreeze concentrate formulation containing no phosphate, amine, or nitrite compounds consists essentially of:(a) a major amount of a water soluble liquid alcohol freezing point depressant;(b) from 0.1-5.0 weight percent of a C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 aliphatic monobasic acid or the alkali metal salt thereof;(c) from 0.1-5.0 weight percent of an alkali metal borate compound; and(d) from 0.1-5.0 weight percent of a hydrocarbyl triazole. The concentrate formulation and aqueous antifreeze formulations of the instant invention give synergistic corrosion protection for a variety of metal surfaces as compared with compositions containing only the aliphatic monobasic acid/salt or alkali metal borate component alone.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 4, 1987
Date of Patent: July 26, 1988
Assignee: Texaco Inc. & S.A. Texaco Petro, N.V.
Inventors: Walter A. Van Neste, Jean P. Maes, Jerome W. Darden, Carol A. Triebel
  • Patent number: 4647392
Abstract: A corrosion inhibitor for use in water and liquid alcohol antifreeze/coolant compositions comprising the combination of a C.sub.5 -C.sub.16 aliphatic monobasic acid or the alkali metal, ammonium, or amine salt of said acid, a C.sub.5 -C.sub.16 hydrocarbyl dibasic acid or the alkali metal, ammonium, or amine salt of said acid, and a hydrocarbyl triazole gives synergistic corrosion protection to metal surfaces as compared with formulations containing either the monoacid or diacid component alone, or formulations containing other conventional corrosion inhibitors.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 27, 1985
Date of Patent: March 3, 1987
Assignees: Texaco Inc., S. A. Texaco Belgium N.V.
Inventors: Jerome W. Darden, Carol A. Triebel, Walter A. Van Neste, Jean P. Maes
  • Patent number: 4047922
Abstract: Disclosed is a slow release fertilizer composition comprising a slack wax-urea adduct prepared by urea-dewaxing petroleum hydrocarbons in which the wax to urea ratio ranges from 0.08 to 0.30 and particularly intended for use on dry, desert-like soils. Solar radiation causes the wax to melt thereby slowly releasing the urea with the wax forming a biodegradable protective layer against wind erosion and water losses.
