  • Patent number: 5053591
Abstract: A silicone seal is molded-in-place to a frame and toggle lever pivotally mounted in the frame, the seal integrally providing a closed loop bead gasket on the lower surface of the frame surrounding the periphery of a switch cavity at the upper surface of a base. Lamp sockets are formed through the base and frame outside the closed loop gasket surrounding the switch cavity, the sockets being surrounded by additional closed loop gaskets integral with the seal, and further comprising lamp receiving resilient boots integral with the seal disposed in a front opening pocket of the frame for convenient insertion/removal of lamps from the front of the switch. A rocker button snaps onto a stub end of the toggle lever within the pocket to overlie the lamps, the button being provided with one or more windows and selected indicia. A panel gasket is molded-in-place to an under surface of a peripheral flange on the frame in the same molding operation as the aforementioned seal, and may also be an integral part of the seal.

  • Patent number: 4488020
Abstract: A reduced size pushbutton (6) switch having a plurality of contact pairs (40, 42, 44, 46) arranged angularly for radial actuation by normally-open cams (34c) or normally-closed cams (34d) on a vertically reciprocated actuator block (34) by a snap-action mechansim (30c, 30d, 36, 38 or 66, 68a). The contact pairs are electrically connected to a control circuitry PC board (52) which provides an output control as well as controlling a multi-character alpha-numeric display mounted within the pushbutton. This display includes a light source (22), a display (24) and movable (14) and stationary (12) contacts connecting the light source to a display drive PC board (10) which may be connected to the control circuitry PC board to afford control of the display by some of the contact pairs. A seal (8) between the front panel and the display PC board hugs the pushbutton to prevent dirt from entering the switch base (54).

  • Patent number: 4476360
Abstract: A terminal seal for an environmentally sealed electric switch is reduced in cost while maintaining an effective seal by eliminating the O-ring and instead angularly reshaping the lower annular surface (20d) of the stationary contact head (20c) and the lower annular surface (28d) of the contact support rivet (28) to coact with the reversed radii (R1, R2) surface of the terminal hole (14, 18) in the molded nylon base (2). Such coaction, when the stationary contact (20) or the contact support rivet (28) is clamped in place and riveted to the external terminal (24, 32), causes cold flow of the radius (R1) along the reshaped angular surface (20d, 28d) to provide an effective seal without the need of an O-ring or other packing material or cement.
