  • Patent number: 4864195
Abstract: The improved color display system includes a cathode-ray tube and a magnetic deflection yoke positioned on the tube. The tube includes a faceplate having a phosphor screen thereon; a shadow mask adjacent to said screen; and an electron gun for generating three electron beams, a center and two side beams, and directing the beams along paths through the yoke toward the mask and screen. The yoke forms a magnetic deflection field for scanning the electron beams vertically and in horizontal lines across the screen. The improvement comprises the combination of two features. First, the mask has greater curvature than the faceplate, with the spacing between the mask and screen increasing from the center to the sides of the mask in the horizontal scan direction. Second, means are included for dynamically varying the spacing between the side beams and the center beam in inverse relation to the variation in mask-to-screen spacing during each horizontal scan line of the electron beams.

  • Patent number: 4691138
Abstract: An improvement is made in a color picture tube having a substantially rectangular slit-aperture type shadow mask mounted therein in spaced relation to a substantially rectangular cathodoluminescent line screen. In the specific improvement, the spacing between adjacent aperture columns near the minor axis of the mask is less at the long sides of the mask than near the major axis of the mask.

  • Patent number: 4665339
Abstract: The present invention provides an improvement in color picture tubes having slit type apertured shadow masks wherein the aperture throats are arranged in columns, and the apertures within each column are separated by webs. The improvement comprises the aperture throat columns passing through a center portion of the mask being substantially straight, and the aperture throat columns on both sides of the center portion of the mask being convexly curved toward the center portion and increasing in curvature with distance from the center portion.

  • Patent number: 4634247
Abstract: The present invention is an improvement in a method of screening a line screen slit mask color picture tube. Such method includes coating a faceplate panel of the tube with a photosensitive material, inserting a slit shadow mask into the panel and exposing the photosensitive material by passing light from a line light source through the slits of the mask. Such method further comprises positioning a generally cylindrical shaped lens between the line light source and the faceplate panel during exposure of the photosensitive material. The longitudinal axis of the lens is oriented perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the line light source. The improvement comprises moving both the faceplate panel and the cylindrical shaped lens in synchronization in a direction parallel to the line light source during the exposing step.

  • Patent number: 4631441
Abstract: An improvement is made in a color picture tube having a substantially rectangular slit-aperture type shadow mask mounted therein in spaced relation to a substantially rectangular cathodoluminescent line screen. In the specific improvement, the cathodoluminescent lines of said screen, in front plan view, first increase in curvature with an increase in distance from the minor axis of the screen and then decrease in curvature with further increase in distance from the minor axis, to become substantially straight at the short sides of the screen.

  • Patent number: 4583022
Abstract: An improvement is made in a color picture tube having a slit-type shadow mounted therein in spaced relation to a cathodoluminescent line screen. For the mask, the spacing between adjacent aperture columns increases from center-to-edge as approximately the fourth power of the distance along from the center. Such fourth order spacing variation permits shaping of the shadow mask so that the contour of the mask along its major axis also varies as a function substantially of the fourth power of distance along from the center of the mask.
