  • Patent number: 4290347
Abstract: A crashworthy fuel pump has a body in which is formed a fuel intake cavity, a fuel discharge cavity, and a fuel pumping chamber. The body has an open end around the periphery of which is formed a lip. A flexible diaphragm is insertable into the open end of the body and the lip is bendable over the outer margin of the diaphragm to clamp the diaphragm within the body. A housing has one end formed for abutment with the open end portion of the body. The body and the housing are clamped together to form a unified assembly. The clamp is sufficiently strong to hold the assembly together when the assembly is subjected to normal forces, but breaks apart when the assembly is subjected to abnormal forces such as occur during a crash whereby the housing and the body can move apart from each other, the movement apart helping maintain the leak integrity of the diaphragm and the body.

  • Patent number: 4284390
Abstract: A collar sized to fit over a fuel pump tower at the outer end of the tower. The collar has an opening sized to accomodate a conduit integrally formed with the tower thus for the collar to fit about the conduit. The collar is attachable to the tower to reinforce the tower so the tower does not tear when the tower or conduit is subjected to abnormal forces during a crash.

  • Patent number: 4282801
Abstract: A fuel pump improvement comprises a leak proof seal formed between the fuel pump body and pumping element. The fuel pump body and a housing are clamped together to form a unified fuel pump assembly.

  • Patent number: 4212316
Abstract: A control valve for use in an automotive fuel pump. A housing is installed in the fuel pump and has a central circular opening therethrough the peripheral surface of which is curved. A valve member is movable relative to the circular opening and has an outer curved contact surface for sealingly contacting the curved peripheral surface to prevent flow of a fuel through the opening. The curved surface of the valve member tangentially contacts the curved peripheral surface to seal against flow. A coil compression spring seats against one end of the housing and continuously urges the valve member into sealing contact with the curved peripheral surface.
