  • Patent number: 4452076
Abstract: A well logging tool, for use within a well borehole having a flowing fluid therein, has a selective bypass means for directing a portion of the flowing fluid away from the housing of the well logging tool upon the flowing fluid exerting a predetermined pressure force upon a packer, whereby damage to the packer from increased pressure forces is minimized and flow characteristics of a fluid flowing at widely varying flow rates may be measured.

  • Patent number: 4353122
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus of differential noise logging. The apparatus includes a mandrel supporting at least two differentially connected acoustic transducers. The noise signals detected by the transducers are filtered, processed by RMS circuits and then subtracted one from another to effectively eliminate road noise. A telemetry system is utilized to send the signals uphole for recording. The differential logging method includes continuous movement of the differential noise logging tool to identify producing perforations, distinguish flow through perforations from flow being casing, and to identify sand jet entry into a cased well.

  • Patent number: 4166216
Abstract: In the representative embodiments of the new and improved methods and apparatus disclosed herein, a well tool incorporating the principles of the present invention is stationed in a production well and discrete quantities of a water-miscible radioactive tracer and an oil-miscible radioactive tracer are periodically discharged from spaced nozzles on the tool. By means of any of several disclosed types of fluid directors on the tool, flowing connate fluids are diverted through a restriction adjacent to the oil-miscible tracer discharge nozzle so that at least some of any oil bubbles in the connate fluids will be coalesced into larger slugs and be brought into direct contact with the ejected oil-miscible tracer. In this manner, subsequent measurements of the radioactivity level in the well bore fluids passing remote locations in the well bore will provide separate indications from which one or more of the individual dynamic flow characteristics of the produced oil and water can be determined.
