  • Patent number: 4451199
Abstract: A structural support system for a wind driven power plant includes a plurality of circular support frames that are supported relative to a stationary foundation by support columns. The support frames are mounted coincident with and spaced along a support-system longitudinal axis with each frame having a circular inner and a circular outer support ring. Axially directed stringers are connected to and extend between respective inner and outer support rings with associated stiffners to provide a structurally enhanced framework for supporting wind driven power plants. The support columns are preferably hinged to the foundation to permit the columns to be fabricated at ground level and pivoted into an upright position for connection to the associated support frames to provide the completed structure.

  • Patent number: 4411588
Abstract: A system for the conversion of wind energy to electric energy includes means for converting prevalent energy winds by use of the following: a "collecto-fin" that includes, from front to rear, a surface of a frustum of a right circular cone and one or more thin, flat circular rings to provide a difference in total pressure between the front and rear surfaces; an inner "stream-liner" that includes, from front to rear, a surface of a right circular cone, a surface of a cylinder, and a surface of a frustum of a right circular cone to conform to the slipstream boundary of the wind; an outer "stream-liner" that includes, from front to rear, a surface of a frustum of a right circular cone, a surface of a cylinder, and a surface of a right circular cone to conform to the slipstream boundary of the wind; and a wind turbine to conform to slipstream boundaries.

  • Patent number: 4182594
Abstract: A system for conversion of wind power to electrical energy. The system provides for use during a wide range of wind velocities by use of the following: an external deflection system consisting of baffles and peripheral turbulence creating walls designed to increase the wind velocity and to divert the wind stream to the aperture of the system; a chamber for the collection and compression of the wind thereby further increasing the wind velocity if necessary; a deflection system for diverting wind from the chamber in high winds; a rigid circumferential tip face at the fan circumference whereby the fan blades fit into the tip race for support; a center deflector to divert the wind force to the fan blade tips; a tip-mounted generating system utilizing induction fields to obtain electrical energy and a system to vary the strength of the induction field so a constant blade speed may be obtained over a range of wind speeds and conditions.
