    Abstract: Aqueous compositions having a viscosity of at least 10 centistokes at 40.degree. C. which contain up to about 80 percent by weight of water, at least 0.1 percent by weight of an acidic lubricity agent and an effective amount of an anti-wear additive which is the combination of a nitroaromatic compound component and a hydroxyl substituted aromatic acid component exhibit enhanced anti-wear and lubricity properties.
