    Abstract: A method of reusing a hub in an abrasive assembly is presented that includes removably coupling the abrasive wheel to a reusable hub. The abrasive wheel has an outer circumference and an inner circumference. The abrasive article has an inner circumference and an outer circumference. The method also includes abrading a worksurface by contacting the abrasive wheel to the worksurface. The reusable hub includes a coupling feature configured to directly couple to the abrasive article. The coupling feature includes an adhesive-free connection between the reusable hub and the abrasive wheel. The direct connection is a removable interlocking between the abrasive wheel and the reusable hub.

The method includes preparing a bondable abrasive composition including abrasive particles, a binder medium and an environmentally benign pore inducing material. The environmentally benign pore inducing material is nonflammable. The method also includes forming a precursor abrasive structure from the bondable abrasive composition. The method also includes removing the pore inducing material from the precursor abrasive structure to provide a porous precursor abrasive structure. The method also includes processing the porous precursor abrasive structure to provide a bonded abrasive article.

    Abstract: The present disclosure provides improved rail grinding tools. Precision-shaped grains (PSGs), such as PSGs manufactured by 3M® company, provide significant performance improvement in resin-bond and vitrified bond grinding wheels. The use of PSG improves the performance of portable bonded wheels and precision grinding wheels, such as resin bond roll grinding wheels, flute grinding wheels, vitrified gear grinding wheels, cylindrical grinding wheels, and surface grinding wheels. The formation and composition of (e.g., monolithic) and multiple-layer PSG grinding tools described herein provides improved performance of rail grinding tools.
