  • Patent number: 4506425
Abstract: There is described a method for the hot repair of the protective layer provided on the permanent lining of a tundish of a continuous casting plant. The method can be carried out simply and quickly, with thermal losses of the tundish being largely prevented and heat influences on the personnel being eliminated, by retaining an amount of residual steel with a slag layer in the tundish. The residual-steel amount plus slag layer is cooled till solidification, is removed from the tundish in a still hot state, and a repair-mass constituting the protective layer is sprayed onto the permanent lining of the still hot tundish.

  • Patent number: 4402437
Abstract: A protection arrangement for a casting jet emerging from a metallurgical vessel includes a protective tube enveloping the casting jet and fastened to an articulation-rod assembly that is pivotable into any space direction. In order to be able to follow any desired position of the casting jet with the protective tube, the articulation-rod assembly includes a first, vertically extending, four-bar linkage parallelogram which is mounted with its vertically arranged web so as to be rotatable about a vertical axis. To its coupler, an extension arm carrying the protective tube is hinged, forming the oscillating crank of a second four-bar linkage. The web of the second four-bar linkage is formed by an oscillating crank of the first four-bar linkage parallelogram.

  • Patent number: 3989093
Abstract: A continuous casting plant for slabs, comprising a water-cooled mould from which the strand is continuously extracted, a supporting and guiding means having rollers for guiding the strand between them, and a cooling device having nozzles for spraying a coolant, in particular water, onto the strand and the rollers, has a part of the cooling device formed by flat jet nozzles arranged parallel to the surface of the strand. The longitudinal axes of the nozzles are parallel to the axes of the rollers, and two flat jet nozzles are arranged between neighboring rollers. Advantageously, the flat jet nozzles are arranged within the area defined by the slab edges of the slab sizes to be cast in the plant, and advantageously they are arranged opposite and toward each other. Furthermore, the flat jet nozzles can have nozzle openings in opposite directions, each opening pointing toward the slab edges.
