  • Patent number: 7254413
Abstract: The present invention relates to cellular mobile radio systems, and more especially it relates to Code Division Multiple Access, CDMA, cellular mobile radio systems, particularly to transmission power control in such systems. A method and apparatus transmitting TPC bits with inherent out-of-sync information and transmission power differential determined on the basis of soft handover status information and out-of-sync status information is disclosed. An associated method and apparatus receiving the TPC bits and controlling transmission power accordingly is presented.

  • Patent number: 6845238
Abstract: A telecommunications network performs an inter-frequency hard handover for a connection with a user equipment unit (UE) by switching either from a cell or a current active set of base stations on a first frequency to a virtual active set of base stations on another (new) frequency. The inter-frequency hard handover can be an inter-frequency handover within a same system, or an inter-system handover. The virtual active set of base stations is maintained at the user equipment unit (UE), and is updated in accordance with one of several updating implementations of the invention. In a first mode of the invention for implementing virtual active set updates, the network authorizes the user equipment unit (UE) to report to the network the occurrence of certain network-specified events which are acted upon by the network for communicating virtual active set update information to the user equipment unit (UE).

  • Patent number: 6438375
Abstract: The present invention coordinates paging, network restriction, and other network-based communications (e.g., mobile measurement requests for O&M) in a mobile telecommunications network. Paging messages, network messages, and other messages may be consolidated in one message so that the mobile need only power up once to retrieve the various information provided in the one message. In one example, non-limiting embodiment, paging groups of mobile stations and network access restriction groups of mobile stations are merged into a single set of paging and network access restriction groups to which different mobile stations belong. A mobile station therefore need only process one message in order to be informed about paging and network access restriction information pertinent to that mobile station.

  • Patent number: 5353332
Abstract: In a radiotelephone system, the control channel of each cell can be configured to broadcast absolute information about its cell and relative information about other cells including the characteristic of the cell. Further, the location of other control channels may also be included among the information broadcast over a control channel of a particular cell. This information is then used to lock a mobile unit to a preferred cell.
