  • Publication number: 20030229506
Abstract: A method and system use multi-tiered authorization for securing mass transit operations. The purchase rights of a consumer to travel on a medium of mass transit are verified. In some examples this verification can involve: transmitting identity (e.g., print data, facial data, universally unique identifier (UUID) data, or the like) and financial information (e.g., credit or debit card information, or the like) to a predetermined (e.g., third party vendor) party using a wireless transceiver biometric device, comparing the identity and financial data to previously stored data, and transmitting the results of the comparison to a consumer's present location. If verified, a transaction for purchase of travel rights is initiated. Information about the consumer and the travel is transmitted to a predetermined entity (e.g., a governmental entity, a third party vendor, or the like). Traveling rights of the consumer are verified before embarkation on the medium of mass transit.

  • Publication number: 20030172027
Abstract: Biometric information is obtained from an individual during a credit transaction and used to verify the identity of the individual prior to completing the transaction in order to prevent the unauthorized use of the credit account. The print identification data is obtained from the individual using an identification device and sent to an identity verification service for a determination about the individual's identity. The credit account number is obtained from the individual and sent to a payment approval service.

  • Publication number: 20030158819
Abstract: A system and method are used to authorize a transaction, determine information about the transaction, generate a digital receipt based on the determining step, and store the digital receipt. The determining step can include determining: a time of the transaction, parties to the transaction, a location of the transaction, a service or product purchased during the transaction. The storing step can include storing the digital receipt locally or remotely through a hardwired or wireless local or remote network (e.g., via the Internet, in a personal digital assistant, in an email account, or the like). The method further comprises the steps of categorizing the information from the determining step and organizing the information based on the categorizing.

  • Publication number: 20030142856
Abstract: A method and system of obtaining a ten-print plain impression fingerprint includes scanning a print image, processing the scanned image, separating the processed image into individual fingerprint images, and determining how many print images have been scanned. The method also includes comparing the print image to a previously scanned print image, quality classifying the separated images, indicating a quality classification of the print image based on the classifying step, and determining whether the print image is of a good quality. The system can include a ten-print scanner having a finger guide and a platen used to position four finger slaps onto the platen.

  • Publication number: 20030133143
Abstract: A system and method for obtaining a biometric image such as a ten-print fingerprint impression is provided. The system and method can include a ten-print scanner having a platen and a finger guide coupled to the platen. The finger guide can be used to guide positioning a finger slap of four fingers at a time onto the platen. The ten-print scanner can also include at least four indicators that indicate an acceptable scan condition of each finger of a finger slap in response to a detected finger slap image.

  • Publication number: 20030133103
Abstract: Systems and methods for illuminating a platen are provided. A hybrid illumination system uses both diffusion and collimation to efficiently provide a flat, uniform illumination at a platen. One or more diffusers are disposed between the illumination source array and a collimating lens. An illumination system is provided which uses diffused light to illuminate a platen in a print scanner. The illumination system has an illumination source array and a light wedge. The light wedge reflects light internally which makes the illumination even more diffuse. An illumination source array has a plurality of sources that emit blue/green light. In one preferred example, the blue/green light is equal to or approximately equal to 510 nm. Sources are divided into at least a center region and a perimeter region. The density of sources provided in the perimeter region is greater than in the center region to correct for natural light falloff in the illumination system.

  • Publication number: 20030001459
Abstract: A wireless transceiver device is used to conduct a secure electronic sales transaction. In an embodiment, the wireless device is used to obtain a fingerprint of the individual wanting to make a purchase. The wireless device then transmits the fingerprint to a device coupled to a cash register, which sends the fingerprint to a third party verification service. The third party verification service uses the received fingerprint to verify the identity of the purchaser by matching the received fingerprint to fingerprint data stored in a database. The identity of the purchaser can then be sent to the cash register and to a credit service. The credit service uses the data from the third party verification service to approve sales information received from the cash register and to prevent the unauthorized use of a credit account.

  • Publication number: 20020090147
Abstract: A system and method for increasing image resolution in a palm print scanner. The method of the invention requires the synchronization of a nutating mirror with a camera frame sync. A first image is scanned at a first nutation position. The mirror is nutated by a fraction of a pixel amount in one direction. Another image is scanned at a second nutation position. The process of nutating the mirror to a different nutation position and scanning an image is repeated until all sub-pixels needed to increase an image resolution are obtained. All of the sub-pixels obtained are then interlaced to obtain a higher resolution image.

  • Publication number: 20020053857
Abstract: An identification device having a piezoelectric sensor array is used to obtain biometric data. In one embodiment, a piezo ceramic sensory array is used to obtain biometric data. In another embodiment, a multi-layer sensor array structure having a PVDF layer in between two conductor grids orthogonal to one another is used to obtain biometric data. Urethane can be added to one side of the senor array where a finger is placed. A foam substrate can be used as a support. Multiplexers are switched to control the sensor. The device has several operating modes for obtaining a variety of biometric data, including an impedance detection mode, a voltage detection mode, an imaging mode, and a Doppler-shift detection mode. The presence of a fingerprint on the sensor can be used to turn-on the device. The device is capable of capturing a fingerprint, forming a three-dimensional map of a finger bone, and/or determining the direction and speed of arteriole and/or capillary blood flow in a finger.
